ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Can't believe he'd leave Liverpool. He was going nowhere in his career until Brendan raised him, nurtured him, moulded him into a world class human being as well as a footballer.

Yeah, I think that's right about the club owners. They seem to have backed Rodgers in terms of fees (even if they cant attract star players they are still spending at the rate of a regular CL club, transfer fee wise). But they seem intent on holding the line on wages and it'll probably see more than Sterling out the door before long.

Liverpool want the status of a 'superpower of world football' (as sh1t for brains has described them as today), but players at the very top of their trade dont buy into it, and they cant attract or keep top quality (or what passes for top quality).

The other thing to note about the Gerrard and Sterling wage sagas is that it'll be registered by the agents of the type of players who Liverpool need to step up to the next level and they will steer their clients a million miles away from playing for them. Then the whole thing feeds in on itself and they dont progress, which means that the next one through the ranks like Ibe, maybe, leaves even more quickly than Sterling.

I have thought about what you were saying about it being a bad move some more. I think you are right it's a desperate and bad move. I suppose we have 3 possibilities.
1) His agent is a fool
2) He feels backed into the corner by the club who have/are leaking info, so whatever bad press he gets doesn't matter as it's coming his way anyway
3)He knows it's a bad move, but he wants away anyway.

Re the owners they are certainly getting a lot closer with the wages. The problem is though, with Rodgers and the media talking their players up, it gets more difficult to keep there better players. They have a major crisis coming with lots of players out of contract and seemingly an inability to negotiate with them. Henderson has 1 year on his deal.

Yes the Gerrard and Sterling affair will do exactly that. It will re-enforce to top players that they cannot handle themselves. I sense this is where we were at under Moyes.

A mediocre manager, who can't handle big name players. A squad full of average players who are told they are world class. And a tight owners who won't pay the wages to keep world class players leads to a fascinating conundrum.

Rodgers has just been on BBC....swaggering into his Press Conference very bullishly (as opposed to his usual bullshitly). Said re Sterling and his interview that "there was no permission by the club and it was something that surprised us all" and Sterling "is not going anywhere in the Summer".

Jose just pricked his ears up.

He's defo gone.

Think hes due for another holiday soon, the poor little thing.

Exactly mate. Lazy little get believing the hype surrounding him.

A good player, had a great season bouncing off the work of a better player. This seasons flavour, we've had Michu and Benteke last couple of seasons amongst others - Harry Kane this season. He's gonna end up Wright Phillips 'esque.
