ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

The 2 of them know exactly what they are doing, it's all being done on purpose to make his position untenable, turn the fans against him, force the move & all these added together driving down the price.

It hasn't harmed anyone's reputation for doing so in the past....Ashley Cole for example is absolutely loved by the media.
Agree that the strategy is to make his position untenable, just don't agree that is the only approach his agent could have taken.

That is the second time Ashley Cole has been mentioned, perhaps I just have a different view of it but always thought his undoubted talent had been somewhat overshadowed by the off field stuff, bit like John Terry.

This is just the start. Wait for Skrtl.

aggar, suarez, sterling, skrtl, gerrard (let's not forget he turned a contract down)....and "hendo" as captain.

this is great

Ha Ha Ha. The Way.

Pure cultism. And what he means is "Kenny's Way".

Maybe when Brendan waffle Gnashers Rodgers is sacked...

He will stop doing that FAKE ACCENT trying to sound like Bill Shankly

Just don't think that an extra bit of money matters that much when you already earn so much. Perhaps Sterling doesn't care about getting heckled but he seemed to at the awards ceremony and his form has dropped since this whole affair kicked off. And reputation does matter with sponsors, especially in the short term.

In fairness though he’s not doing this for the money, he’ll get whatever he wants from any club that signs him. Liverpool as a club are going nowhere, if he wants to win something then he needs to move.

They’ve shown no ambition in terms of recruitment – lovren, lallana, markovic etc.

Their biggest players are leaving or left – suarez, gerrard

Contract negotiations didn’t happen at the right time – if they had wanted him to stay they would have offered him a bumper contract after the World Cup last year when his stock was at it’s highest.

Truth is I don’t think they want him to stay. As a club they’ve always been good at elevating a player’s status far beyond his ability, and as a result they tend to get good money for players they sell. I think the owners have realised that Sterling’s reputation was higher than his ability and decided to delay the contract in the hope someone would come in for him. No one did, so they’ve low-balled him (and they have if he is the best young player in Europe as they themselves claim) and when he’s refused suddenly there are photos leaked to the press of him taking ‘legal highs’, stories of him rejecting the contract because of money and all the ex-gobshites in the media coming out and saying he should stay because he isn’t all that and should be happy for what he has.

It’s the same tactics as the government appealing to the general public’s general mis-trust of anyone getting anything more than them 'for nothing', instead of pointing the finger at what is really wrong.

Ibe turned down his initial contract offer and suddenly there are photos of him taking ‘legal highs’ as well. That henry openly laughed about how they held Suarez against the deals of his contract when Arsenal bid for him, so it should be clear for anyone in any doubt that they’re not going to play fair.

The mass fume on Twitter is amazing, they’ve gone from claiming he’s the second coming, to booing him when he collects his player of the year trophy! How can he sign the contract now? Is it wrong that we enjoy this and I secretly hope he signs for Utd?

Rawkites getting in a lather because Raheem and the Ox share agents. Even a picture doing the rounds of Wilshere,The Ox,Sturridge and Sterling posing together.

Walcott and a sonic care brush for Gnashers should seal the deal. Get it done Mr Ayre.

Hideous isn't it?

I bet no one in the part of NI speaks like that.

An utter fake.

He's destined to be back where he belongs. Two years from now he'll be managing some outfit in League One.

Possibly although we have a lot of company in our enjoyment from Utd, Chelsea fans and if @49ers is representative Arsenal ones as well!

With Rom appearing on the shirt advertising launched today, that suggests to me that he is going nowhere.

Suarez appeared in pics of their shirt launch I believe. I may be wrong. :)

I have left a few jobs in my time, but it has NEVER been about the money. It's all been about the way I perceived I was being treated. When you are as young as Sterling is, every slight is magnified. It all gets taken to heart.

He has had enough.

Let Raheem go.

Liverpool have handled this badly, you and I agree that they have been trying to paint Sterling as a greedy kid who should just listen to his superiors. But don't think Ward has handled the response very well either.

Releasing the bombshell he did on Monday, right before their awards ceremony was effective in it meant he got a nice "Sterling booed" headline to back up his narrative. However it must have ruined what should have been an enjoyable experience for Raheem and the weekend game will be probably be even worse.

It might all work out with Sterling moving to a CL club with more chance of silverware and a higher salary. But he has made his client suffer a lot of personal abuse/reputational damage to get it, surely there are better ways to achieve his goals? Especially since his client is only 20, think he has a duty to protect him a bit more and not convinced this "burning bridges" tactic is the only one that could have been taken.
Ward wasn't the one who went to the media saying greedy young Raheem turned down 100k per week. Since then he has been subjected to a torrent of abuse from their army of ex-players in the media. For being a money grabber.

The facts are, sterling won't get much more than that if he goes to another club. Liverpool, even taking last season's fluke into account, have an average league finish of sixth over the last six seasons. That's the reality of what they are. Upper mid-table. A Europa league team. I didn't hear dozens of ex-spurs players slating Bale, Modric, van der Vaart for not signing new contracts when they wanted to go to other clubs where they had more chance of winning trophies. Even at utd, as massive as they are, they are not talking about 'greedy de gea' and saying how dare he victimise the legendary institution that is Manchester united like this.

Sterling and his agent have borne this criticism for months and I think they have just finally had enough. He wants to win things. He sees Liverpools ambitions as below his, and despite the hordes of rs pundits ranting about how massive and special a club they are, he is right. They can't even give a decent reason for him to stay, other than, he will play more at Liverpool. Yeah, I am sure he is dying to stick around the club that has played him at wing back and as a target man, and a manager that keeps him on for 120 minutes against lower league opposition in a cup match, while publically warning his international manager off playing him for his country. Best place for his development my arse.
