ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

They just love the attention. The owners don't want a media circus but people at the club promote it because it's the only way they can keep themselves relevant. That's why you have execs, the manager, the player, and a whole load of ex players just mouthing off all the time. Apart from Lukaku's agent you've not heard anything out of Everton.
This is a great point. Mirallas has the same amount of time left on his contract as Sterling does. He's been repeatedly asked about his contract, and he may have been sequestered from the squad for a short period, but at no point did Martinez or Everton throw him under the bus and attempt to pressure him to sign a new contract.

Our board may be clownish in a lot of ways, but at least in these situations it carries itself with some dignity.

With Rom appearing on the shirt advertising launched today, that suggests to me that he is going nowhere.

I think it would be a little short-sighted for his agent to push for a move now. He hasn't really done enough to raise his valuation much, if he waits one more season and Rom kicks on, he'll be worth more money and have one fewer year left on his contract... which translates to more money for the agent.

Millions of normal people sign contracts with their employers and then leave before the contract runs out, no one gives them abuse for wanting to improve their career or get a change of scenery.... why is it different when a footballer wants to do the same ? it's such a double standard made worse by the fact that football fans are some of the most irrational people on the planet.

Starting to respeck Aidy Ward a little bit. A lot, if I'm honest.
Liverpool have handled this badly, you and I agree that they have been trying to paint Sterling as a greedy kid who should just listen to his superiors. But don't think Ward has handled the response very well either.

Releasing the bombshell he did on Monday, right before their awards ceremony was effective in it meant he got a nice "Sterling booed" headline to back up his narrative. However it must have ruined what should have been an enjoyable experience for Raheem and the weekend game will be probably be even worse.

It might all work out with Sterling moving to a CL club with more chance of silverware and a higher salary. But he has made his client suffer a lot of personal abuse/reputational damage to get it, surely there are better ways to achieve his goals? Especially since his client is only 20, think he has a duty to protect him a bit more and not convinced this "burning bridges" tactic is the only one that could have been taken.

Didn't harm cashley hole nor sol campbell none, did it?

yeah but he'll be on a nice little earner himself if he gets the move so he's probably not arsed.

Short term bank balance wise no, but reputation wise yes which in this age of sponsors can translate into a financial issue long term. But he is putting a huge amount of uneccessary pressure on the lads shoulders, that can take an emotional toll.

Just not keen on anyone, be that club or agent, throwing youngsters to the wolves.

Reputation wise? Do you think he's remotely arsed abar his reputation when he's raking it in? Dunno what world you live in but look at the likes of rio ferdinand, cole etc. Think they give a flying one? When did their sponsorship deals hit the rocks with all their palavers? How badly were their careers affected by shenanigans?

Just doesn't happen.

And Liverpool fans are ten times more irrational than the normal irrationality found in fans of other clubs.

Just don't think that an extra bit of money matters that much when you already earn so much. Perhaps Sterling doesn't care about getting heckled but he seemed to at the awards ceremony and his form has dropped since this whole affair kicked off. And reputation does matter with sponsors, especially in the short term.

The gift that keeps giving.

Tomorrows summit between Sterling and the Club has been canceled.

Best stock up on popcorn I expect this will run and run until he gets his transfer now and the shirts get torched.

The 2 of them know exactly what they are doing, it's all being done on purpose to make his position untenable, turn the fans against him, force the move & all these added together driving down the price.

It hasn't harmed anyone's reputation for doing so in the past....Ashley Cole for example is absolutely loved by the media.
