ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Benteke is a very good striker, but he just won't fit their system, in the same way Lambert and Balotelli didn't, he's completely the wrong signing for them. Thank the Lord they've seemingly walked away from Bacca, as I think he'd have been a much better fit.

Yeah Ive said this myself. He thrives on bullying defenders, winning headers and crosses into the box.

They'll have to change their style again if they want to get the best out of him because he's not one for high energy pressing to worry defenders into mistakes, it just not his game like it's not Lukaku's.

As soon as I seen Firmino's stats my first thought was that this cant be the end of the spending upfront. Sturridge will never make it back as a fit player they can trust to turn up week in, week out. Origi? No chance. Their problem is that if they couldn't get a top notch clinical finisher last summer when they had CL footy to offer then they've got no chance now.

Dalglish plucked Suarez out of the Dutch League and gave him a chance. He knew what he was doing. Rodgers either isn't strong enough to impose himself on LFC's transfer activity, or if he is he's not able to see a diamond in the rough.

They're stumbling around in the dark now completely lost.

Well no, but they will be left again with a whole host of players, strangely too many players if such a thing exists. Under Moyes we often did better with a smaller squad. Mourinho has scaled back Chelsea's squad. Having too many players, who will never get a look in drags the mood down. They are going to have to move out 5 or 6 just to stand still, and a lot of the new lads they've brought in need time to settle. This panic stricken spending may sound good and get the fans on board, but it is rarely an effective way to build a successful team.

Dalglish either got extremely lucky, or is an under appreciated genius re Suarez. I know which one I think it was. He is the one signing in that bracket who has come off for them. Their approach appears to be, that if they keep buying players for that much money eventually they will stumble upon another Suarez. I can't see it happening.

The more I read about Firmino the more impressed I am with him. He is aggressive and feisty and makes goals. However I am not sure he's much better than Coutinho or Sterling.

Compare their approach to Mourinho's over the last 18 months. Mourinho has offloaded potentially good players but fringe players. Lukaku, Marin, De Bruyne, Lampard alongside moving on poor players well, (Ba, Mikel, Drogba). He has added a key defensive midfielder (Matic) a creative midfielder (Fabregas) and a Striker (Costa). That is proper recruitment. Identify what you need and go and sign the player. All I can get from Rodgers is he has no idea what he wants. This then reflects itself on the pitch, as he doesn't seem to know how to use the players he buys.

I hope they waste their cash on Benteke. He's a poor man's Lukaku.

Bacca I hope they dont get thiugh. He's got a good nose for goals (although I didn't realise how old he is - coming up to 29). Still, Liverpool will no doubt be the stalking horse for some team involved in the CL he really wants to go to (he'd be leaving a side that's just qualified for it after all).

Yeah, there's been too much churn at Liverpool with last season's windows and now this summer. They basically panicked when Suarez left and instead of pulling out the stops on a top couple of strikers (difficult maybe due to wage structure of FSGs but not impossible) and leaving well alone they did a Spurs with the Suarez money...a scattergun policy on transfers; now they're doing the same with the Sterling cash. It all just adds to instability. They've had to do this again this summer because they got it so wrong upfront last summer and are dealing with the aftermath of those poor choices. They cant afford to repeat this process. Origi + Firmino + an unfit Sturridge isn't going to do it for them. They have to move again...and that just adds to the churn and instability.

benteke's brilliant. he constantly sh*tes them up - he could get better deals though, he really could.

but he's a carrol type player - rodgers make no sense!

I feel sorry for Ings it would seem that there will be very little game time for him in view of the strikers already there and new signings.

Makus Babbel on the Firmino fee:

"That is brutal. When I heard that I flinched, because even for Liverpool that is not chicken feed.

The Germans are pissing themselves. They seem to think the soft arses have overpaid by about £15M.
