ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

But the likes of Hornby, and other football supporters should be applauded for taking a stance against racism and we have come a long way from those days.

So what's this?

Hornby may have a dislike of Liverpool as a city and its people.

We should applaud his his stance against racism - when he has a prejudicial view of the people of liverpool? Doesn't make sense to me.

Why? Just cos you're an Everton fan shouldn't give the (alleged) behaviour of the people of Liverpool a free pass.

I haven't given anyone a free pass. And it shouldn't allow him his apparent dislike of the people of this city neither. Cuts both ways. All clubs have their tools (Some more than others) doesn't mean I go around calling arsenal supporters disgruntled Irish immigrants from kilburn.

I've never read any of his books, nor seen any of the films, and after what I've read from other posters about hornby (On other forums too, it must be noted) I can say I'm not inclined to, either.

Maybe you don't remember, but I do...... Back in the early 90's the daily mirror did an alternate badge article. The two that I remember vividly were ours & arsenal's (funnily enough)

Arsenal's had a caricature of tony adams holding his hands up (The infamous 'offside trap' they played under george graham).

Everton's was a caricature of 'ghostbusters' but instead of a ghost it was a black man in a blue shirt. I didn't find it remotely amusing, and it perpetuated a myth that we were somehow racist because we didn't have a black player in the squad at that time. Never mind that we employed Cliff Marshall (in the 70's when a lot of other clubs wouldn't entertain the thought a black player) or Mike Trebilcock before him.

They've convinced themselves they are 4th in their alternative league........

I don't get it... How did they dream this up? Was there some text to put it in context or some working out shown?
Please help I'm at work and my head hurts now from staring at it for too long

EDIT: Never mind mate, got to the page with the explanation. None the wiser, but cheers anyways

But you would argue that if you were aiming for 4th and above, 6 points vs Bournemouth would be a must. Failure to get them and you're already 'over-par'. I sort of see the way it works, and I guess it's about extrapolating results across the season, but as you say, it's grasping at straws if they think this actually means anything.

Well, yeah. We might look back at the end of the season and rue the Watford result. We don't need a bloody elaborate scoring system and alternative table to know that.

It's ridiculous. They're cretins.
