ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

The words 'Look At Me" should be emblazoned on their badge. They're a world away from the glory days of the 70s and 80s.

I have no idea if Klopp can get them back as serious PL contenders - I think not - but it's a massive road back for them. In fact, looking at them from a historical perspective, it's clear now that they are a club that crammed almost all their major success into 17 years (73-90). Prior to that point and after it (105 years out of 123) they were non-descript also rans or (lately) picking up the odd trophy the elite of English football weren't fiercely intent on securing (FA Cup, LC, Uefa Cup).

It's really no wonder now that all they have is to scream and jump up and down and hope someone mentions them in passing.

they just remind me of those piss-stained pensioners you see on the Bus who have to shout very loudly "I'M 94 YOU KNOW!!" whenever there's a lull in the conversation

I'VE GOT 18 LEAGUE TITLES YOU KNOW!!

The Spurs pre-match thread is good for a laugh.

Apparently we still wear flares & have mullets.

Compared to our pre match threads it is entirely humourless and frankly boring as feck isn't it mate?

BTW can you kindly do them over big time on Saturday and let them all start wondering were it all went wrong with their new messiah

Amusingly none of them realise yet that Pocchetino has been playing a variant of the Dortmund system since he arrived in England - they all think that the league won't have a clue how to handle it lol

I said it all last week: if they'd got Ancelotti that would be a concern - the feller is proven quality and a success in different leagues; this Klopp appointment surprised me, but essentially it's a circus sideshow. The feller might be a success - far likelier though is he'll struggle. I'm very dubious of his final season at Dortmund and the fact he has zero experience outside the Bundesliga. No one can detract from his two titles there, but it really isn't the level of competition of the PL.

He's bound to be more successful if given time and cash than Rodgers, but that's a very low bar that even Kenny Napoleon Bonaparte Dalglish achieved prior to Rodgers.

Being fair Dave mate, the last season for Klopp at Dortmund no manager would have been able to have finished more than 7th with the sheer amount of injuries they had - and a lot of them to key players, could argue a strong case it effected them even more due to the nature of Klopp preferring a very small first team squad of 15-16 players as well which meant when injuries told the depth behind was way down in ability

Also that system requires a hell of a lot of drilling so can't exactly slot in 3-4 new players without it creaking badly

Still no guarantee how he will do over in England though - or how well he himself will settle and be able to deal with the media - who are far more vicious and intrusive than their German counterparts

They spooked their own team two season's back and lost them the league with all their premature triumphalism. They'll sicken this feller Klopp. He'll be repulsed by their cultish intensity.

I do feel sorry for him a bit. Imagine having that psychotic crew looking in your bins and taking selfies with you when you're on the bog trying to have a turkish delight in peace.

You really think? I reckon this oddball will embrace all that nonsense from the bunch of circus freaks that follow that club. Dortmund fans are barely different, bring huge flags and banners to the game, sing YNWA. He'll fit them like a glove

The more fundamental issue with Dortmund's slide was that Klopp didn't rebuild well enough. The players he brought in like Immobile were rank and he made the mistake of looking backwards and bringing players like Kagawa and Sahin. And as far as I can gauge his head wasn't in the game. Cranky and irrational.

It's difficult to keep on getting success. Klopp had a wave of glory and fell away. That would be noted by most top clubs. Liverpool are not at the races in that respect so took a punt on him.

Replacing Lewandowski was always going to be a massive gamble though, can't myself knock the job he did at Dortmund and i do rate him as a manager highly, IF he can turn them around is another matter altogether though as they have major problems that my instinct tells me just wasn't the manger at fault

I think he's all show on the day of the game. After that I reckon he'd just want to switch off.

This country has a way of invading privacy like no other. The media will do anything to feed the Kopite frenzy, and so Klopp is in for a torrid time.

It cant be denied (and I never would) that he was a great success knocking Bayern off their perch for a few seasons. Equally theres no denying he couldnt maintain the challenge and the slide away from the top was dramatic.

Ancelotti - "Speaking about a return to work, Ancelotti recently said: 'I’d like to go back to thePremier League. It is the ideal environment not for football, but for the ‘game’ around football.

'You can work with the right amount of pressure, the necessary detachment and calm.' "

Wonder why he knocked Liberpewl back then?
