I just wonder why Parry never came forward with this before. It's an explanation that (if not exonerates) contextualises the DIC fiasco in a more positive light for himself and Moores.
It does sound iffy. Maybe someone from the other side of the deal will respond to it?
All told though, it does show how poor Liverpool were in not evaluating Hicks in particular. As the article suggests, there was maybe negotiation fatigue - and the prospect of walking off with about £500 more per share than what DIC were offering was too much to refuse and they caved in to Gillett (who they had done due diligence on) plus Hicks, who was an utter freebooter.
Yeah, that point you make about the timing of this interview is the key one (or the release of it). You do have to ask yourself 'why now?'. The Anfield Wrap have sat on that interview since they did it in the summer.I get the feeling rather than "calling DIC's bluff" Parry and co got caught bluffing. I also think they probably felt more secure in Gillette so it wasn't that bad of a fall back option. I also can't help but feel a bit of Islamaphobia has crept in there with the idea brown people couldn't possibly be effective leaders of their football club.
Overall though I think they felt they were ok with Gillette. To be honest they probably were. He really isn't that much worse than the current owners. Yes he laddered the club with debt but so did the Glaziers and it's worked fine for United. They also spent big money under Benitez, but by that stage a lucky manager was well and truly past it so any hope of getting regular champions league qualification had gone.
However he had a team that had been to two Champions league finals in 3 years and was given money to add the likes of Torres/Mascherano etc. It is a major cock up for them not to win anything post 2007.
Aside from that the timing issue is interesting as you've said. Judging by the panel he has (Tony Evans in particular) and the Anfield Wrap in general I think they are quite sceptical of FSG. Part of beginning to judge FSG more accurately is going to require a more honest approach of what went before him and realise they are not quite the saviours they are made out to be.
Liverpool were very well financed on the pitch. They had a dud manager who has flopped everywhere else he's been subsequently wasting countless money on players. He then turned on the owners and "unleashed the mob" (as Rodgers would say). This made a difficult situation turn volatile and irreparable. A completely kamikaze move from Benitez who sacrificed his reputation but at least allowed his to divert attention for his bad signings onto others.
I think there is a revisionism trying to creep in on FSG now. Some of the cleverer fans are starting to realise that after 5 years there master plan of winning leagues is further away now than it ever has been. FSG just talk a good game (Gillette's biggest weakness).
The second reason for the timing I suspect is the general euphoria around Klopp. A good week to bury bad news. They can carefully slip that bit of news in that they don't need a Dubai style takeover and fans are probably inclined to agree with Parry. But he has set his pitch up now and I expect to se more criticism of FSG as time goes by.
Klopp is the last throw of the dice for them. He is their archetypal manager. They couldn't get a better manager to fit their system. If Klopp fails to come off fans are going to start demanding they spend even more money (and wages). For Parry he is just trying to save his own reputation in amongst this.
And PlopWow Klopp rhymes with Kop !
Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen's klopps the one for L.F.C.
The one to the tune of 'Agado' is by far the best and most catchy.
Trouble with I'm A Believer is the intonation at the end

Unison Klapping above the head has such an effect.
Das Boot Room surely
Come to think of it he could resemble the unshaven U Boat Captain presiding over a sinking vessel.
