ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

I was at that game....it was the most frightened I have ever been at a game.

I thought I was being squashed to death once inside the stadium making my way to the terrace.

They were herding us in through a big blue double door but only one half of it was open.....that was the problem.

I buttonholed a steward and pointed out was was going on and he apologised, saying Plod were dictating what was happening and they told him he was not to open the other half.

It was an F.A. Cup tie......the first match in the epic saga we had with them circa 1988.
Crikey mate, you must have been very near me and my mate Steve. He had very bad knees and I was really worried that if he went down in the crush, he'd never get up.
Soon as got down that tunnel, we went to the right and started yelling at the stewards to open the gates to the next pen as the crush was really bad.
It was definitely the police who were directing the stewards as to when or indeed if to allow us to spread out into the next sections. Scary scary day.

Thinking of that banner they had at Wembly,Anfield South, anyone know how many times compared to us, we could be there twice this Season like.

not sure about both Wembley's but the have the upper hand now at the new one, the semi v us was their 1st visit but they were then there 3 times in 3 months I think ? plus recent city game.

didn't Anfield South 1st get used when they played Brugge there & probably did actually have an enormous amount in the place ? although Utd wouldve been the same in 68 tbh

Was talking to my mate about them maybe playing Dortmund, he said if they did, this is what him and the other lads he goes the match with have planned to wear:

I don't get it, does the mouth open or something?

Totally agree. The bit I like best is his reaction. Trots off like a baby lamb that's been butted by a ram, meek and accepting of the natural order.

Thats hilarious! Hilarious but true!

Next in line at the pit would be a Yakubu esque barge on one of their defenders from Lukalu or Niasse...prior to scoring of course.

I'd forgive the red tinted glasses but I wish they'd format the date properly ffs.

Liverpool Smackdown: 62% of fans insist Firmino is better than 'genius' €40m attacker

3/12/2016 04:55:00 pm

Earlier this week, ex-Red Jamie Redknapp hailed Leicester City start Riyadh Mahrez as the Premier League's 'Player of the Season', but is he a better player than the Liverpool's Roberto Firmino, who performs a similar role for the Reds?

When asked on Sunday whether£29m-rated Mahrez is the Prem's 'player of the Year' Redknapp toldSky Sports:

"I think he [Mahrez] is. He a genius, and there are only a few player who possess his quality".

Roberto Firmino is the closest Liverpool have got to a Mahrez-type player, but when it comes to actual end product, Mahrez is leaving Brazilian in the dust:

* Mahrez: 26 goals/assists in 30 games (One every 91 mins)

* Firmino: 18 goals/assists in 37 games (One every 139 mins)

I conducted a poll this week asking fans who they'd rather have playing for Liverpool.

The results:

Mahrez - who, according to the CIES Football observatory, is worth €40m - is on fire this season, but like the majority of poll participants, I also chose Firmino, for the following reasons:

* From what I've seen, he has more pace than Mahrez (especially over 5-10 yards), and to my eyes, Firmino has greater body strength.

* Firmino has done the business in two of Europe's best leagues; Mahrez is superb this season, but this is the only outstanding season of his career.

The best thing about Firmino is that Liverpool finally have another attacking midfielder who delivers consistent end product. The Brazilian is on 18 goals/assists already, and if he keeps his current rate of prolificity, he could end the season with a laudable 25+ goals/assists.

Brendan Rodgers wasted tens of millions on dud players over the years, but with Firmino, he appears to have got it right.

They didn't say they were dud when he was signing them did they?

Looking at results the new Wembley is definitely not Anfield South having lost two finals there compared to one win v Cardiff. In recent years Wembley has been the second ground for Chelsea and Arsenal who have dominated the domestic cups.

"Manchester United will not be punished by Uefa after some of their fans sang about the Hillsborough disaster in a Europa League defeat at Liverpool."

"Offensive chants were heard during Liverpool's 2-0 win at Anfield in the first leg of their last - 16 tie last Thursday"

Remember the game mate we actually went to the left at the end of the tunnel to the smaller pen which was pretty empty

The 4th game which we were leading 5-0 at half time was much better organised though we only got in just on half time because of a crash on the 62 and missed all the goals

It wouldn't surprise me if the better elements amongst the Manu fans, do something to show their disgust over the chanting last Thursday.

For the other lurkers, lets get some facts straight.

Anyway go and enjoy the mickey-mouse cup that you are in, the one all the big teams dread being involved in. We are in the semi finals of the worlds most prestigious cup competition. Enjoy semi final's weekend, you might be able to cheer a local Merseyside team on, that is if you're not a wool.

Cracking post mate, but one small concern highlighted...... They aren't a big team anymore. Big Club yes but their team is average to half decent at their best.
