Hilarity aside - and it's been a hilarious, happy, wonderful evening all told - this result is pretty important in quashing the momentum of the perception that Liverpool are back in the elite that the media are dying to run with

8th, another year of rebuilding, only 1 League Cup in 10 years, no European football to entice big-name players is how things are

Brilliant big-name new manager, massive new stand, CL football, a European trophy - is how things could have been

So very happy that things are as they are tonight..

they haven't enticed a big name for about a decade. i'm struggling to think of the last one. i suppose balotelli counts, but he went there because he'd already had a go at a few of the bigger clubs despite his age.

Struggling to pick up the nearest manhole aren't you lad?

There is great excitement amongst their supporters about the players that Liverpool are planning to buy and all that.I don't mean to be disrespectful to Liverpool. When i say that i don't think they are the sort of high level that can attract players that want to win the top level prizes like the league and champions league.

My favourite line from RAWK :

My thoughts after a couple of hours away from everything:
- Sevilla are horrible, cheating bastards, but they know what they need to do to win. I'd be embarrassed to support a team who utilised those tactics.

Their big game record is as bad as ours.

2007 Champions League Final 2-1 loss to AC Milan

2008 Champions League Semi-Final 4-3 aggregate loss to Chelsea

2010 Europa League Semi-final 2-2 aggregate loss on away goals to Atletico Madrid

2012 FA Cup Final 2-1 loss to Chelsea

2015 Capital One Cup Semi-Final 2-1 aggregate loss to Chelsea

2015 FA Cup Semi-final 2-1 loss to Aston Villa

2016 Capital One Cup Final Lost on penalties to City

2016 Europa League Final 3-1 loss to Sevilla

Our perceptions need to change
