ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

4 months in "Office" and Brent is already suffering delusions. He claims 4th place is the target. Perhaps he is thinking failure and fat pay off already. Still -they won the 2nd half at Spurs, don't ya know?

Sheeds, this is not important and a complete aside from the thread but do you know how clubs account for the non-wage payments such as signing on fees? Are they attributed to wages or transfer fees or somewhere else?

I ask because what you have described can make Stoke seem to have a low wage bill when in fact it is pretty similar to other clubs if you take into account signing on fees.

It's a 'wage' & is taxed as thus but may well come out of the clubs 'transfer pot' when they come to where they attribute it if that makes sense ? What they tend to do is pay say a £400k signing-on fee in 4 yearly payments of £100k over the duration of the contract but they may again attribute it as an additional £8k a month in wages so £20k a week becomes £22k ish. Or if a player is forcing a clubs hand & is on a big contract the old club will pay off parts of his contract and describe it as that when in fact what they are doing is adding to the new clubs wages to make them an attractive move for the player.

On sterling I'm told from a very good source that it's Rodgers who wont authorise the big money deal and it's his decision which is another reason he's keen to cull dalglish's big contract deals. It seems they (Rodgers) won't pay more than £25k & im told he wont sign that whilst at least a couple of clubs seem interested at the £40k per week 'price' . This could end badly for them

Agent's Fees etc are a Wage cost and would be spread over the length of the contract as would transfer costs

As I understand Not necessarily mate, that often the case but it's not set in stone . Signing on fees are applied over the length of a deal to try and ensure the contract is honoured agents fees are often a different matter to my knowledge .

feel a bit sorry for brendan here. i know he's a tit, but he genuienely is trying his best by the sounds of it to get the club run in a proper manner. The fact that he is trying to cover a liverpool legend's mistakes makes it even harder and you just know he will be getting the blame if sterling goes somewhere else for more money, not kenny. anyway, sterling has what 1 goal and 2 assists in about 15 games, he hasn't done anything of note lately either. cue a goal against the mighty defence of soton. he's obviously talented, but then theo walcott looked good at that age, he's some way off oxlade-chamberlain from what i've seen so far.

Haha, the BBC text updates are really taking the piss out of Carroll & Torres.

Hello and welcome to 'International Fernandy Carroll Day'. The day where overpriced strikers all over the world meet up to ask the question 'where did it all go wrong?'. Goals are most definitely not guaranteed.

Yes, Fernando Torres and Andy Carroll's names and careers will forever be linked by that crazy day at the end of the January 2011 transfer window when Liverpool flogged Fernando to Chelsea for £50m and snapped up Andy for the comparatively cheap price of £35m. Carroll is now on loan at West Ham, of course, after failing to make much of an impact at Anfield... but the goals have not started flowing for him again yet.

Today's 'How much did they cost again?' convention will take place at Upton Park when the Hammers take on the Blues (at 1245 GMT), although Carroll is not guaranteed to make the £85m date - he is a doubt because of a knee problem - which is a shame because he is in hot scoring form (sort of), having notched his first goal of an injury-hit season against Tottenham on Sunday.

Carroll does at least put himself about a bit when he is not finding the net, though, which I'm not sure you can say about Fernando Torres. The Spaniard is not doing much of anything at the moment and he is 11 minutes away from reaching 11 hours since his last Premier League goal. That's not very good, is it?

So Andy Carroll's knee injury means he and Fernando Torres are denied the chance of thinking 'at least I'm not as bad as you' when they shake hands before kick-off'. Which is a shame..
