Well you know, I got roundly panned (on an Everton match thread in The Guardian) for daring to suggest, in return for Liverpool fans visiting to laugh at (another) poor Everton performance, that "Victim FC" had overstepped the mark when suggesting Firmino - oh, and wait for it - his family too, were distressed over the Holgate accusations... granted their player was found not guilty but that doesn't excuse the attitude of Liverpool Football Club. I find it atypical, and disgusting, that, rather than just going with the flow and keeping their counsel, they prefer to recall the faux distress of their player. Since everything in the matter was above board they could just have said they were content to move on and pleased with the outcome.
I didn't believe Holgate was abused by Firmino either. Allow me to present my version of what happened. Everton had just conceded a fairly needless penalty when Holgate, a young, relatively inexperienced player, was culpable for the foul. So here we are, Everton are having a bad 5 or 10 minutes and Firmino is, like many other players, giving it large to wind Holgate up.. words are exchanged, Holgate mishears and the rest we all know.. but, hey no one thinks it's much of a problem for Firmino to call Holgate "puto" despite the letter of the law saying otherwise (ungentlemanly conduct).
