Eddie Howe

..from what I see his team sits deep and tries to play their way out. Trouble is, that system is suicidal against the top teams because they press high. Also, his team are not very good at it yet he persists in playing it. It would, however, suit our slow and ponderous centre backs because they could continue to defend on the edge of our box.

Look at the manager, look how he sets his team up, look at the quality of the players he’s bought, look to see if he’s developed a team strategy. Then you have a better idea of what you’re wishing for.

Two teams, one is Everton in a disaster of a season with terrible players, managed by the hated BFS, one is Bournemouth managed by the venerated Eddie Howe:

43 Goals scored, 55 allowed, 13 wins
43 Goals scored, 60 allowed, 10 wins

Which is which?

One has a wage bill around £50 million a year higher and spent around £200 million on players after finishing 7th.

Why? The last time we had a manager stick that people didn't hate, he came from Preston. Howe is young and clearly has some managerial talent. We're not getting a Conte or a Emery.

Because we need to stop getting managers who over achieve at small clubs in the hope they can do it at us. An actual big club.

There is literally no evidence to say Eddie Howe could manage a club our size. In fact when he went to Burnley, bigger than Bournemouth in my eyes, he ballsed it up and cried back to his happy place.

It would be a horrendous choice.

He was at Burnley 7 years ago when he was like 33...Since then he’s turned Bournemouth into premier league regulars who play good football on a shoestring budget all while clubs around them spend bucket loads. I’d say he’s exactly the type of young manager who should get a move to a bigger club. Him getting a chance at Everton is all about who we could actually attract. He’d be lower than several on my list but we could do so much worse.

So you'd say he was about average then?

Me too, BANG average.

H s not on a shoestring ther though, he's actually spent a fair bit and on a lot of tosh as well

I must be missing what that manager from Preston achieved. Can you remind me of the honours we won under said manager?

Ummm no. His biggest purchase, Ake, is worth more than the 20m he paid. He messed up on Ibe at 15m but besides that he’s been capped at around 10m for some one off transfers like Begovic and also brought in Lewis Cook for around 6m.

1. The point was that Howe would not be the most unambitous appointment in our history...I could have also pointed to his replacement who had just been relegated
2. He pulled us up to respectability and got top 4 at least once

I could not disagree more. We’ve tried this over and over and got nowhere.
Absolutely pathetic option.

Being better than Sam Allardyce is not the criteria for the next manager of Everton otherwise we’d want you in charge.
