Apart from he isn’t.

You're welcome, of course, to a different opinion.

"The arrival of John Stones may also have contributed to Otamendi’s improvement. Last season, he didn’t have a settled partner, with Eliaquim Mangala often erratic and subjected to periods on the bench and Vincent Kompany spending long stretches on the sidelines nursing muscle injuries.

"Stones, 22, is Guardiola’s main man at the back. Signed for £47.5 million from Everton, he is the future of the club, a man Guardiola sees as capable of becoming the best ball-playing centre-back in world football. He has been a regular in the side, adapted seamlessly and had a stabilising effect—Otamendi being one of the chief beneficiaries.

"It’s early days, and the memory of his shaky displays last season remain fresh—but Otamendi’s improvement is clear. Calmer, more assured and more intelligent, he looks capable of justifying the £28 million price tag he came with when he signed from Valencia last summer."

His legs literally fell off.

i-dont-think-you-know-what-that-word-means-gif-2.gif

I think he will be a decent addition .. this season i think corners especially we have been bullied a bit , this kids a monster in the air absolute yobo with the ball at his feet

but set pieces he will over a bit more strength then what we do have as we don't have anyone dominant in the air ( mori is our best )

And so City spent a small fortune on Laporte because?

There is a youtube of him against Chelsea where he looks far from Yoboesque

i think hes better then we give him credit for but i have seen him do some terrible passing from the back ... his long balls are fairly decent ( which is why sam got him )

Got a man city fan as a mate ( scouser believe it or not ) and he said hes done a fine job this season when hes stepped in and wanted to keep him

Him and Jags were odd. Both of them looked great next to any other partner but together they always looked like they had an error in them. Think the 2-2 at home to Newcastle in one of Moyes’ last seasons did it for me with those two and Howard. We’d absolutely battered them and got undone by a long ball that bounced between them in the last minute.

I seem to remember that being the night the Hillsborough inquest was announced, and not being massively bothered about the result so it passed me by a bit.

At the time, Heitinga and Distin formed a formidable partnership and a very underrated one. Heitinga's brains alongside Distins power was fantastic and while he wasn't a resounding success in that period it was a joy to watch Heitinga play the ball out of the back for us.

I'm not sure Jagielka or Distin were the most intelligent and both relied upon pace to get them out of situations. Having played that position myself, you can't have two lads doing that or you get problems. Strangely with age Jagielka appears to have developed a bit more of an ability to read the game quite well. But you are right, they never quite worked together.

I'm hoping Mangala can be a bit like Distin. A lot of similar comments were made when we signed him, he'd been moved on from City and looked to have his best days behind him at Pompey but turned out to be another terrific signing from Moyes.

I have seem some odd comments sort of moaning that they wanted us to "moved on from taking caste offs". We have tried that though and as yet it really hasn't worked. I think unless you get a very progressive coach and a stability that runs through the club it's hard to just buy the best young players and develop them as a sole approach. I'm happy to see us taking some lads who have talent, have maybe not utilised it at a top club and who can hopefully succeed in a different enviroment.

I can't knock Sam/Walsh for this signing, or Walcott really who are both smart buys. Tosun will remain open to question.
