Easy :

Simms is absolutely the worst example to use to berate our coaching staff. When he first appeared pre season for the u18 he was a big strong 16 year old as likely to hit the corner flag with a shot as score a goal. He didn’t get many games that season , the coaches worked hard on him and next season he was banging in all those goals. When he went up to Unsworth’s U23s he was fast , strong and could score goals and despite the regular shouts from the fantasists he was way way off first team level , barely at U23s level. Over the past 18 months the coaches have worked really hard on his movement , his passing and particularly his hold up play. He can now trap the ball , turn , and lay it off to others . His heading is poor though.
He’s still very much still a work in progress, I’ve often said he’s about a year behind Gordon who’s the same age . I think he’s a player who will mature in a few years time and score a bag full of goals for somebody , whether we have the patience to hold onto him I’m not sure.
The coaches have taken a burly , seemingly uncoordinated 16 year old and turned him into a player who’s on the fringe of our first team squad, not a bad feat.

Not sure if you are related to him or what. You seem to have that mix of a lot of knowledge about the player and a lot invested in defending him too.

Hope he makes it but if he does, he is the exception rather than the rule from Unsworth’s coaching.

It’s based on what I’ve seen of him over 3 1/2 years and is therefore largely factual in terms of how he’s progressed and where he is now - nobody has said I’m wrong on the facts , where he currently is or how he plays. I’m not sure how you get “ invested a lot in defending him” , it’s a view on how i see him. My “ I think he’ll mature in a few years time etc” is an opinion, others think he won’t make it anywhere so people disagree with me , not the end of the world. But I will admit to being much more likely to defend our youngsters than slag them off.

I think it was more that you replied to every post that had anything negative to say about him or the situation in general.

If it’s your opinion then fair enough. I’m sure you’ve seen more of him yourself, my issue is not with the lad but more the system that I think has failed us over the last few years.

Nope. The only negative post I think I responded to was Nymzee , and you’ve miss read it . It’s a standard joke we’ve had for about 2 years , re two players Adeydoin and Simms and he will know they were tongue in cheek comments not outright criticism of him or defense of Simms.
