He’s goal scoring ratio dropped quite a bit when he was moved up a level, playing against others closer to his size. All the hype came from him bullying 16yo while himself being a much bigger lad and scoring loads. Based on that alone, i doubt he’ll make it here, but i hope im wrong.
Same mate.

If the coaches think he's of the required standard and good enough then yes. However their reluctance to play him suggests that he's probably not and given his age he likely won't be good enough at this level. Dcl at his age was getting regular game time at first team level

I am a serious sceptic of unsworth. How you can win things in the academy levels but fail to produce a regular stream of first team players is beyond me. It completely ignores the purpose of the academy for me.

I would have got rid of him and brought someone else in whereas Everton promote the guy, madness and jobs for the boys mentality.

Don’t get your hopes up, he will not play Simms. I’d be surprised if he even gets on the bench. Stop now and you won’t be disappointed by Tosun starting with Sugurdsson behind him.

Probably because they learn nothing playing against the same age groups in the under 23 leagues instead of playing against some big grock defender who is trying to get into the first team of his club and is willing to do anything to get there in a reserve league.

Our ratio is probably similar to most other clubs really.

But why is it Unsworth in particular that bears responsibility for that? Why not the coaches further down the age groups? Why not the senior managers? What is it specifically about being under 23s coach that makes you responsible for whether a player develops into a first teamer?

The under 23 coach is the guy that is supposed to fine tune them to head into the first team.

You can hardly blame the under 10s manager/coach because if you start going that far down the line we may as well all start turning up to kids Sunday league and telling them they are useless and never gonna make it.

There are quality players out there in every generation, our aim should be to get a man at the top of our academy pyramid who can sign them and nurture them for our first team not use them to pad his record with trophies which mean very little in the grand scheme of things.

I heard @MikelsGoat does this.

Is he? I don't think so really. You can only work with what you've got, if you don't give the under 23s manager players with the ability to step up then whats he supposed to do? Similarly, what can he do once a player has stepped up? It's not Unsworth's fault if Ancelotti won't pick Gordon for example, is it? I don't know whether Unsworth's doing a good job or not because I don't see it day to day. He's just an easy scapegoat though, blamed by people who have no idea whether he's doing well or not.

Can't really comment on this guy as I've seen nothing of him. However, I'm sure Ancellotti and his staff have seen him so he must be really poor if Tosun is starting ahead of him.

Thing is that Unsy has been in charge of signing players for the academy too so he can only blame himself for having sub par players to work with.

As for Gordon not being given a chance, it’s clear that Carlo doesn’t like what he’s seeing in training so Unsy didn’t prepare him well enough plus Gordon made a good start against Rotherham but was poor from 10 mins in onwards (as were the rest of the team to be fair).
