2022/23 Ellis Simms

Cannon seems to be more mobile, and both have an eye for goal. I could see a pairing in a 4-4-2 working, but it's a big risk after the two seasons we've endured. Had we gone down, that may have worked, all depends if Scotch Eggio is given more than £2.50 in the summer.
Feels like either Simms or Cannon as back up striker next season (hopefully having bought in one or two more).

As you say may have gone with both of them in the Championship but don't think we can in the Premier League.

I think it is likely he will move in the summer.
I think Branthwaite, Mills, Welch and Cannon to name just four will all be involved in preseason so they can be assessed.
Interesting to se McAllister on the bench yesterday.

I think we should sell him I just don't see anything in him when he has played, yesterday for example had to close down their defenders quickly for the 12 mins he was on for and nothing just jogged about, lacking desire right there, imagine if that was a 21 year old fan coming on you would of seen some sprinting then 😉

Glad to see us once again prepared to move on from a young player without giving him a real opportunity. A pillar of a poorly run club.
I will never understand how he was seen as good enough to start at Anfield and Old Trafford but seemed to stay behind Maupay in the order.
His goal against Chelsea was another season saving moment

Branthwaite the only one there who has a chance in the Prem imo (and he was ropey playing for us before his loan move to Holland).

The other 3 havent shown they're anything other than Championship level players currently.

Cannon and Mills need loan moves & Simms needs selling.
Just like your assessment of DCL when he was fit....a championship player.....

….the manager wasn’t convinced with him. He clearly wasn’t convinced with Maupay too so ultimately thought Gray was the least worst option.

Probably because the manager considered them dead rubber, zero points so nothing to lose by giving him the opportunity.
Plays Maupay when he thinks we have a chance maybe 🤷🏻‍♂️

Gray is a good option to always start for us, but I really wish we had played Simms more, ok everything worked out in the end but it was a shame to recall him from Sunderland and play him so little.

Yeah thats a good point that, you have to target games, and at least it did give him some experience

….these lads have to prove themselves when they get an opportunity, not forgetting they are watched closely in training every day. Clubs have to make decisions about them, they can’t keep them and give them plenty of games if the assessment is that they’re not good enough. Points are precious.

I think I’ve seen enough of Simms to determine his future lies elsewhere. There’s not many we get rid of that become top drawer.
