Surely the end of the season would be the natural break point. I doubt Everton would announce that he’s handed his notice in thus invalidating everything he says in the next 3 months.

Think you are misunderstanding what people are saying. If he has started his handover process, accepted a new role and handed in his notice, he is for all intents and purposes 'gone'. Anything else is just quibbling over semantics.

Exactly - he is in a multi-million pound business. It won't be a case of "Off you go, here's your P45". Very likely that severance terms have been agreed and he is fulfilling existing commitments up to his leaving date.

And if he handed in his notice surely he would be put on gardening leave? Can you imagine the conflict in interest if he goes to commercial meetings...'and by the way there will be a possibility of sponsoring a brand new super league event that I feel with give you more brand exposure than what you could get with this deal for cheaper rates too.

Can't see how he stays on once he decides to quit.
