End of Gambling firms as shirt sponsors (26/27)

Almost half of the clubs of the Premier League have the names of bookmakers on the front of their shirts, but the BBC only interviewed Sean Dyche about the situation.

Very odd.

Was listening to talksport on the way back from football last night. Martin Samuel I think it was speaking facts. I was close to ringing up as a gambling addict and backing up the points made.

Generally he said the shirts aren't really the problem, it's usually a load of numbers or chinese writing. The adverts on the television inbetween games and before are the most damaging compared to the shirts. Which is absolutely bang on. For those who can have a bet and dont even think about it until the next Saturday, good for you, but a lot of people whether they're in denial about their problem or are in recovery, seeing those adverts slammed in your face is tough. They were saying as well in relation to kit, even though there are rules that sponsors can't be on U18 kits and so forth, they still see the brands and when they're 18 they're well familiar with what betting companies are/who they are.

All a bit of a PR move for me, no real impact from removing from the front of shirts (they can still be on sleeves apparently....)

I can't see what impact it will have, whatsoever.

Sky Sports reporting on Ivan Toney's charges and then turning around 5 mins later with a Sky Bet promotion is infuriating.

They are scum.

Hopefully they remove the majority off of the TV ad slots as well.

Watching a definitely legal Malaysian stream so far and I don't recall any as intrusive ads - they did have some for coffee, cars and some local stuff/productions though, incredibly refreshing from the "10 min break, 9 min of betting ads".

Imho that's the problem, not sponsoring the clubs, but ideally you'd want it all but removed anyway.
