Correct thing to do but utter hypocrisy coming from the PL.

Football is just absolutely depressing these days (even excluding us being a joke), it really is.

I'm not sure about this one. Addiciton of any kind is bad and so is the advertising/promotion of the thing that leads to the addiction. However, as has already been pointed out by others on here, there are lots of things that are bad for us that the football authorities/government just don't address. Plus, gambling isn't illegal. When our 'lords and masters' decide what we are allowed to see and/or hear, without the legal justification, I fear that our freedom of speech/choice is being eroded bit by bit. I do sympathise with those that have been adversly affected by gambling - there should be more support and advice available - but sometimes in tackling the 'tabloid horror' we lose something intangible but equally as important. It won't materially affect me if they ban the advertising on gambling (or cigarettes or fizzy drinks or McDonalds or non-electric cars). I just worry what will come after those, who decides what should be banned and what justification they have - other than stories of individual traumas and, in a country of 64 million (or whatever the latest population figure is) you could find these stories to justify banning whatever you want - violence on the streets due to Grand Theft Auto anyone?

Exactly mate.

They'll hit their audience and I don't think the Premier League should be getting applause for a self serving/token measure.

If they acknowledge the problem to the extent to remove gambling from a minority of clubs shirts in the league, then why stop there?

Why not ban gambling money at clubs entirely and at broadcasting?

Possibly the biggest sporting media outlet in the country also owns one of the biggest gambling websites. It’s madness.

What would the likes of 'Horse Racing' be without Gambling, It would be dead as a global sport/event.
It would disappear so rapidly it would just end up a 'Rich man's hobby' in the back of there yard ( Sorry, Rich person's hobby )

Addiction is a truly truly awful thing. But like has been covered before, just about every shirt sponsor can have a dark side for different people.
If your going to bet/gamble, your going to do it whether you see a company printed on a shirt or not.

If anything the company on your shirt will lose customers, Like 'Goat' and his Candy or crown paints or 'GrimbolandBlue' with his Carlsberg.

YOU DIDN'T SEE ME KICKING AND SCREAMING AND BLAMING COMPANY'S SPONSORSHIP/BRANDING WHEN I TOOK THIS PIC !!!

This is a tough one, personally I don't like the gambling sponsors but it seems like a necessary evil for some clubs.

As they said on Bullseye, 'that's the gamble'.

They also said 'let's see what you could have won' a phrase we know so well

We all have our life experiences, mate.

As I say, gambling has never impacted my life, but Alcohol issues with certain people in my life certainly has.

Im not saying 1 is worse than the other, but as a "smoker", its always wound me up how drinking is acceptable, yet people look down their noses at the evil "druggies", but hey, for another day.
I’m don’t think banning gambling and drinking, or even most drugs is the answer. I do think that normalising them for children is dangerous. My kids see every advert and think it’s an easy win.

Sky sports app is full of skybet odds and advertising but that is fine it seems. I couldn’t name three clubs with gambling sponsors as I pay no attention to them. I think the advertising on football shirts is nothing in comparison to the actual gambling advertising in other parts of the game.
Yes I agree, but there is now a direction of travel. Hopefully, first shirts and next advertising as a whole

There’s very little controversy about this move for good reason: most people are in favour of it.

That’s why it’s happening. It’s not the league finding a moral backbone, it’s the league reflecting popular opinion.

That’s also the reason alcohol and fast food advertising isn’t yet banned: public opinion isn’t there yet.

So I think the question as to why one vice is bannable and another isn’t should be asked of the public as a whole, not of the league in particular.

Society makes progress is uneven ways, and the Premier League will move with it purely to go with the flow.
