Energy prices

So that's explains why you live in Swindon. Explains a lot.
Near Swindon. I bailed out if that god forsaken place nearly 20 years ago to live on a boat on the Thames. The flooding, the mud, the gales, the freezing winters all infinitely preferable to cope with than Grimdon.

Live in a small town nearby now in a house that apparently needs a lot doing to it. Could be a million miles away from zombieland.

Chris clearly lives in Pinehill and doesn't want to admit it!

Absolutely strange place is Swindon. Has no idea what it wants to be. Currently seems to be aiming for the world's largest poor quality newbuild housing estate (sold for extortionate prices).

Can't see any other thread dedicated to energy bills. So, any horror stories from your supplier?

I'll start. I got an email yesterday saying that my payments will be £525 per month from October. That's £6300 per year. Cap, what cap? Anyway, based on usage from Oct 2020 to Oct 2021 and the new cost per Kwh and the new daily standing charge I'm calculating my gas at £1200. E.on's estimate is £5200. Busy tomorrow but will be giving them a call on Thursday.
They always try it on. I usually adjust my dd online by £5. Stops the stupid emails.

This is what my wife has just sent me ??? as if im going to pay that!! DD will be getting cancelled, fight me in court.

Not wanting to seem rude or unsympathetic, but am I right I'm thinking you are £510 in debt with them currently? That's probably why they're jacking it up so much.

£170 a month ain't covering the energy costs? Christ. I use £65 for electricity and about £15 for gas at the moment. Which will increase in the coming months. You must have a bigger house / kids!

No mate its sound, i can easily afford to pay it but its out of principal I'm not! My wife called up when they increased a few months ago and told them she is not paying it as we cant afford it and there is no justification for it. They asked what she could afford to pay and she told them 170 quid or something like that (she deals with all the bills)

Its the principal of the matter as to why were not paying it, it needs to be challenged and i will go to court if i have to. (probably lose like but i dont give a toss)

I work out the country for weeks on end and my son works away and is only home every 3rd weekend, so in the house is my wife and daughter who spends 5 days a week in school and they calculate a bill of almost 500 quid hahaha 'koff if they think they can just send us a bill with no justification and think I'm going to pay it!

I don't care what they say is the justification for the huge rise they're not getting it without a fight.

I live in a 4-bed new house so well insulated. My children have now left so just my wife and I. I work from home. My wife goes out to work. I don't and won't put the heating on during the day. Hoodie keeps the chill off. Might put it on in the evening although we have a log burner which is enough to keep it cosy.
What's the price of wood in England these days out of interest?

That's nonsense based on a predicted 'average usage'. My Mom's smart meter broke and she started getting estimated bills 3 times my bill (which is always higher than hers as I have more appliances).

Ropey practices abound.

Its a joke mate and needs to be challenged on a grand scale.

BTW these are the summer months! Imagine what the winter bills on their 'assumed usage' will be?
Heartbreaking to see many families struggling as it is without the basic gas and leccy being unaffordable.

I got told a while back to pay something like £450 a month. This was probably the March hike. Wrote a letter calling them profiteering b%$^*ds. I got an email back saying "we have taken your feedback onboard".

I called them and explained how to calculate the real cost and the bloke said he'll go away and re-calculate. He got back and said £190 per month. I said that it was still high but I can live with it. What they don't know is that we took delivery of a hybrid in May so £190 is probably not enough. I will let them raise it to £300.

You done pretty much what my wife done.

Out of curiosity, have you been with the sane supplier a while now? I'm guessing so as no one has been offering fixed deals. If so, they know your likely future usage based on previous years, so no excuses for poor and inflated extrapolation.

I taught the progeny of penhill for 11 years. Kids who'd go home each day to find they had a different dad or mum or neither.

The council have excelled in demolishing or let rot any historic architecture and creating a soulless utterly pointless town. They have forced out every family owned interesting shop from its town centre with sky high rents and high parking charges then lamented when the "anytown" branded shops make people realise they might as well shop in another town. Of course they've all gone bust or left town now so all we get are empty shops and more council car parks.

They've replaced free flowing roundabouts with congestion causing traffic lights, spent a fortune in cycle lanes fir half a dozen cyclists to brave the quarter mile of Lane forest having to rejoin traffic. They've even put bus stops in roundabouts to hinder traffic more.

Every council road work lasts a minimum of 4 years and goes 4 times over budget to end up looking pretty much the same. They spent a fortune in a park and ride scheme hat took 4 years to build and that operated for a month. Its now a car park for Hermes or whoever.

Tory Council lobbing money at their ahem *preferred* contractors. Stinks if corruption, but the people are do utterly bovine they keep voting the same council in and then moaning about them.

Oh yeah, I experienced the joys of congestion caused by the bodged 'improvements' to Akers Way when I lived there.

Ended up buying a bike to commute as it was faster. That is one thing I think Swindon had going for it, decent cycling routes.
