Y'see, that's probably the kind of thinking that sees us get into wars. For me I'm a football fan before I'm an England fan. Right now Spain play football a whole lot better than we do. If England were to play Spain off the park with a wonderful display of football then of course I'd be very happy, but if both teams play to their current potential I fully expect Spain to wipe the floor with us.

It's a dangerous thing to blindly support your country whatever it does. It's just a place you're born in, nothing more than that. London for instance has people from all over the world and it's that multiculturalism that is part of the fun of being here. Should I dislike my girl if we play the Czech's in football? It'd be pretty silly wouldn't it?
 

Quite happy for England to get beat 10-1 as long as the 1 is a Baines/Rodwell goal

And just to join the debate, i love England, id quite happy get an England Tattoo (if i actually wanted a tattoo that is) but ive just fell out of love with Football for the time being - thanks to Everton mostly, so it makes a change to support a good team - like spain, and actually enjoy watching football, rather than getting too connected to England...

That really had nothing to do with what I'm saying. You have a point, but it's not connected to my post. No one's saying you have to dislike anyone to support England. Apart from the obvious Germany France and Argentina but that goes without saying.

Why you would actively want your own country to get beat I just will never understand on this forum. No other country would have this attitude. As I said can you imagine The Spanish wanting anyone to beat them? It just wouldnt happen.

For the record I think it will be 2 1 Spain.

Why would I want us to get beat? Largely because we're a side that play dull, boring football with a team made up largely of players for whom I have little respect. If we were playing any other nation then I'd be largely ambivalent about the whole affair, but as we're playing Spain I'm not, and that's because Spain by and large play football in the way I think it should be played, and in the way I enjoy watching it played.

It's the same in the rugby union. If we'd have found ourselves playing Wales I'd have wanted the Welsh to win because they played a much better game than we did.

I'm afraid Everton is the extent of my blind loyalty, England certainly doesn't get it :)

So basically you don't mind England getting beat and actually want Spain to win (a team full of cheating pricks) because we're not very good...
 
Fair enough. Obv I care about Everton more, but only because they are an all year thing. When it comes to the Euro's and the WC I get just as worked up about England as I do about Everton. Just as gutted when they inevitably fail.

Mate you should have learnt to expect failure by now, I have and it makes things a whole lot easier when it occurs

Oh I expect it. Doesn't make it easier though. It's because England and Everton , on paper should do so much much better.

Finding the desire for England to lose in this thread a bit strange.

Anyway, come on England. Hope Jack plays, low chance though!
