There's nobody any better? How is Danny Welbeck anywhere near the England squad?

Calvert Lewin, Solanke, Maddison even though that's not exactly the same position. Same thing with Gray. All would benefit from being around the set up even if they don't become regularswho?
All of them are shoite thoughCalvert Lewin, Solanke, Maddison even though that's not exactly the same position. Same thing with Gray. All would benefit from being around the set up even if they don't become regulars
But they might not be in 3-4 years. I guarantee Welbeck will still be terrible in 3 years. The whole point is allowing your best youngsters the chance to be around the squad and to get used to international level football. It's why Germany always has 3-4 young players. It's why Spain took Odriozola to the World Cup. It's valuable experience. All of them are shoite though

The point really isn't to predict who will and will not be good. It's to not load up your squad with people who certainly aren't.They’ll still be shoite in 4 years
All it showed me was that our midfield is awful. Defenders all played well, attackers played well (at least Rashford did, Kane looks jaded). There's a glaring weakness in midfield. It's unbalanced, leaves us wide open defensively and too easy to play through, and the better teams know all they have to do is press Henderson and he'll either slice it out of play, hoof it aimlessly or pass it directly to him. He then disappears and the defenders have no one to play out too. All the while Lingard and Alli are too far up the pitch to influence anything.I’m glad the media and people in general are now seeing that the Worlld Cup proved nothing more than the fact that England will always lose against decent teams.
Southgate also being shown for what he is, a poor manager who’s weird team selections and failure to pick players based on form (despite trying to make out he does) should come back to bite him.
“We are hoping that now we have given them some minutes they will go back to their club better prepared for when they get their opportunity and it gives them a better chance of staying in the team. They are going to have the League Cup and European football, so there’s more opportunity that the squads will get rotated. But if we are in a similar situation next month – three weeks into the season is one thing, but seven weeks and they have not played? It is even more complicated.”
I said this before the semi final. Our midfield has no guile, Modric owned it. As you said, the defence and forward line did ok but we dont have anyone who can control the game. All it showed me was that our midfield is awful. We'll keep struggling until some young ball-playing central midfielders come through IMHO. Hopefully soon.
