16 goals in 40 caps. Versatility. How is Danny Welbeck anywhere near the England squad?
You can't pick players who aren't getting time for their clubs and expect that they'll be up to speed for the national team in a week. That's my feeling at least.16 goals in 40 caps. Versatility.
Edit: not saying I agree with it. But that's probably why.

That's not a great idea. The idea should be to build toward the best squad for 2020 and if Welbeck isn't playing he won't be in it. One of the reasons recent World Cup winners struggle 4 years later is reluctance to phase out players who have become not as good.Yeah but he said for this squad he's trying to keep some contiunuity from the world cup squad, and 2-3 league games is not a big enough basis on which to start making changes to the squad. He also said more changes are likely in future squads when there's more of a pattern to who's playing regularly and who's not.
I think point is that we’re only 3 games into a league season so it’s hard to know what the best team will look like in 2 years. He could call Foden up now but for all we know he might not play a game for city for the next 2 yearsThat's not a great idea. Yeah that's true. My feeling is as a general principle loyalty to the World Cup squad should be limited.I think point is that we’re only 3 games into a league season so it’s hard to know what the best team will look like in 2 years. Do agree with you to a certain extent, but, they are a young squad so no need for wholesale changes. Also, the bottom line is, there isnt a lot of quality about.Yeah that's true. My feeling is as a general principle loyalty to the World Cup squad should be limited.
Agreed but again my point is more specifically pointing to Danny Welbeck who is neither young nor talented. The rest of the squad I agree with.Do agree with you to a certain extent, but, they are a young squad so no need for wholesale changes. Also, the bottom line is, there isnt a lot of quality about.
Across his career in the PL, he's managed a goal or assist every 165 minutes. DCL (for instance) manages the same every 179 in a less successful team. Lallana is worse than DCL, only managing one every 187 mins.Agreed but again my point is more specifically pointing to Danny Welbeck who is neither young nor talented. Lallana is a midfielder tbf but honestly Welbeck is just not good. 5 years ago when he was young it made sense to give him chances but he's 27 now and is not getting betterAcross his career in the PL, he's managed a goal or assist every 165 minutes. You'd expect Lallana, as an attacking midfielder, to have more assists though which should even it out a bit.Lallana is a midfielder tbf but honestly Welbeck is just not good. 5 years ago when he was young it made sense to give him chances but he's 27 now and is not getting better
His time at Liverpool hasn't been as a traditional #10 so to speak so I'm not really surprised he doesn't have a lot of assists. I'm not saying I rate Lallana but I don't think you should look at those kinds of numbers for him since leaving S'ton. You'd expect Lallana, as an attacking midfielder, to have more assists though which should even it out a bit.
