these starc and hazelwood chaps are right jammy c*nts with the bat

haha is rice.

great catch. brilliant bowling from england. anderson is getting on a bit but just keeps going.

in a great position here, i can finally see some runs for lyth. need to get a solid base from the top 3 and then get that middle-lower order to smash some quick runs to set up a big chase.

Anything around 300 should give us a great chance.

aussies had 4? players who got out in the 30's whereas england had those players getting 50's or 60's and then root going on to make a biggish hundred whereas rodgers fell short

That says a lot about the Aussies not being used to our pitches yet. No surprise that it was Rodgers who top scored as he's used to playing over here. This is a great start but I remember how many first tests England have struggled in due to being 'undercooked'. Really need to win this one and put the creaking old Aussies on the back foot.

that's so lucky. they have bowled utterly appallingly so far, not one good ball and get a cheap wicket from something which should have gone for 8. that was a rank delivery

England's cricket team is almost exciting, just need to get Root captaining and we're there.

Why put that burden on him? He's still young and I would prefer to watch him enjoying his batting with no other pressure on him.

A few people in the press have talked about Root being captain, but I don't understand how being a brilliant batsmen automatically gives you all the tactical nous that a Test captain needs. I've looked at his Wiki page and can't see that he has even captained at county level.
