England v Australia - THE ASHES

An awful shot by Broad, what is the point of having Ali at no.8 if the tail don't support him. Some very sloppy cricket from England in the past hour.

I was a rare optimist before the Test started but I'm certainly not notching this one up as a definite England win just yet. The whole dynamic of Test cricket has changed so much recently, nothing can be taken for granted anymore, especially with 180 overs left in the match after today. Just a few days ago, Pakistan knocked off 382 in the fourth innings to win by 7 wickets against Sri Lanka. They had been 13/2 as well.

brilliant batting from wood - you play your game lad - don't listen to my nudging and nurdeling advice haha

i regularly cycle on the taff trail and that's right where that 6 went. i did cycle past there a few weeks back just after KP had been sent back to the dressing room. sanga was still there - be sure to go quickly ha

i've never seen a team so bad with the reviews than the aussies.

england under strauss had a system where all 3 had to agree and they used it basically what it was implemented for - to get rid of the howler. aussies just seem to get too overconfident and think everything's out. they just constantly use it for gambles.

mooen has to go in before buttler for me. they can alternate based on the position of the game but no doubt he's the better player.

ha you could have predicted that, jimmy just didn't look arsed.

well played england. this aussie pace attack is vastly overrated imo, there's just not a wealth of fast bowlers around to compare them too which makes them look better. they bowl the odd wicket taking delivery but they just can't keep it tight, they bowl so many boundary balls.

hazelwood = mcgarth? please mcgrath got wickets by tieing batsmen down and drying up the runs. thsi guy just bowls the odd wicket taking delivery but is no more economical than the other two.

also mitchell johnson. is it just an average cricketer? does he require a fast bouncing wicket to cause trouble or can he actually do it somewhere else?

How big is tomorrow morning. If the Aussies chalk up 100 - 150 with only 1 or 2 down it's squeaky bum time. Going to be very tough for the Aussies on a pitch 4 days old but if anyone can do it they can.

Without pace and bounce they have no plan B. Worry for Australia unlike England they have nobody coming through the ranks either

Bowl then? 80mph?

The slow fast bowlers, yeah. The real quickies, 95 mph plus.

If one can do that, and move the ball in the air or off the seam, then that is usually the deadliest fast ball. But a 40 mph spinner can be just as devastating.

edit. In football terms, it is like a dead straight thunderbolt of a shot, versus a slightly slower but swerving one. Keeper has no chance if the straight one is in the right place, and has to guess a little bit with the swerving one.
