England v Australia - THE ASHES

The top speedsters bowl at 90mph. The average international fast bowler would probably be somewhere between 80-85mph.

Ok. Finnish national game is baseball (not the american one) and pitchers do about the same. Best pitcher did 97mph few weeks ago in big event. Yankees scout was a bit suprised cause 5 guys did over 90mph just like that...and they have had difficulties to find such speeds in cricket

Do pitchers have to keep their pitching arm straight though? Cos bowlers do, well nearly. They cant throw the ball, it is bowled. If that makes sense.

I know what you ment. They dont have to. And actual Pitching goes upwards...like straight upwards :) throwing is for burning opposition players.

As with football, I'd rather see a team risk losing in order to win than play it safe. 400 in a 4th innings is a big ask for any team and by the sounds of it this is not a vintage Aussie team. So I'm happy with the England tactics today. Got to give the opposition something to go for or they'll just Stonewall.
They'll dig in tomorrow looking to secure a draw and if they've got the wickets in hand go for it on Sunday.
Weather permitting.

God I miss cricket over here.

Brilliant stuff today from both teams, great entertainment. The Clarke catch was stunning and was the moment of the day.

England massive favourites to win now but it is brilliant that there is still a chance that it could go the other way.

That's the beauty of test cricket. Doncha just love it.

Why put that burden on him? He's still young and I would prefer to watch him enjoying his batting with no other pressure on him.

A few people in the press have talked about Root being captain, but I don't understand how being a brilliant batsmen automatically gives you all the tactical nous that a Test captain needs. I've looked at his Wiki page and can't see that he has even captained at county level.

Wouldn't be doing it today, in the future though. He knows his cricket.

Anderson looks like he is well up for it and Wood is certainly showing that he is ready for this level, even Ali and Broad showed in the first innings that we might have been wrong saying that the Aussies bowling attack is much better than ours.

Never write off the Aussies but think it will be a bit too far for this Aussie side.

Oh and Joe Root is just too classy.
