England v Australia - THE ASHES

I like most sports, horsey sports don't really appeal but apart for them I'm a fan. I do struggle with the fact that in cricket one side can be soundly beaten and the result is a draw. I know we are not American and a draw can be a very good result, but surely not when one side scores more than the other.
It's a 'test' of bat and ball though. Yes the idea is to score more runs than the opposition but you also need to bowl them out twice, it's hardly rocket science like.

I completely understand the concept, my school played. We even had a lad who went over and played at county level and a couple of Irish internationals. I know you have to score more and bowl the other side out twice. My point is, a side could be two hundred in front with the other side with No. 10 & 11 at the crease and still only get a draw. Surely that's not cricket.

Yes it is. Partly why it is loved so much, well test cricket is, is because of all the weird outcomes that could occur.

An innings could be over in 2 overs, or it could be a draw after 5 days. With anything in between. And rain.

You can only win a test if you get 20 wickets (declarations aside).

Just like in any sport teams can be dominated in every single department except the one that counts and therefore lose. Obviously in cricket runs and wickets are more equal than say shots and goals but it is still a case of wickets matter.

I'm sure in football one team can absolutely batter another one but the team that is getting battered hangs on for a draw. Same thing.

When you put it that way I can see a strange logic in it.
