England v Australia - THE ASHES

Got 5/1. Was told by an Aussie in work to stick my money where my mouth is when I said his team were being massively overrated. Thanks to his insistence I will be a £120 richer soon enough.

that's brilliant, just utterly brilliant. i actually out some on england start of the series as well.

positive signs from stokes anyway. we know his talent with the bat, and we know he can make an impact with the ball, but still has things to prove in that department. hopefully can get a few more performances like that from him.

They're in some right mither here. Was supposed to be some sort of swan song for a few and how Boycott has laughed and chortled. Glorious radio.

Is it just a coincidence that England have been thrashing them at grounds that actually make a bit of noise and get on top of the Aussies? Whereas, they stuffed us at a ground where to even murmur is considered uncouth.

Keep hearing how the Aussies are fighters, almost like it's unique to them. Mitchell Johnson really looked up for the fight last night hanging his bat outside off stump looking totally disinterested. Watch how he reacted as soon as he nicked it. Didn't turn to see the ball and off he went.

Of their recognised batsmen, Warner aside, I haven't seen much fight from the second innings of the 3 tests they will lose.

Partly. The atmosphere arguably may add to the psychological benefits for the home team. Edgebaston for example is very intimidating.

However most people would agree that the key factor has been the crease. Lords played to their strengthens in both bowling and batting.

It's a fast, bouncy pitch which is much more akin to their native creases. It offers no swing for bowlers and our batsman aren't used to it.

Our record against Australia there is pretty much dire (not helped by the above), so I do not think people go there to expect a win.

That must help contribute to the lacklustre atmosphere there, which then arguably plays in their favour. It makes it much, much easier.

The opposite could be said about the other creases in the series such as Edgebaston and Trent Bridge. There's swing, less bounce and it's slower.

Australian batsman have struggled to adapt to the English crease, and the crowd have realised this. There's an expectation that we can win.

With the added raucous atmosphere it must be intimidating for the convicts to come out and bowl and bet well. That whips up the crowd even more.

Add to that they're just not as a good team as they once were; there's some real deficiencies in their camp and they are struggling.

Putting it in football terms: Goodison can really help the lads when it's rowdy, but it is situation which helps make the crowd lively beforehand.

Rumours going around within Australian social media that Clarke has been told that there is 'no place for him in Australian cricket'.

As such, he has planned to retire entirely from cricket after the Oval game. He's been poor here but it's a shame as he has been a great player.

Will Watson review that like ?
