England v Croatia

Dont want to raise anyone's hopes, but i seriously think England can win the world cup next year. There are very few teams playing better than them right now.
Very few international sides boast more than 1 player for each position. You could argue England have at least 3 for each position these days.
Most of the other countries are in decline, with ageing players. The only countries that seem on the up, are England, Spain and possibly Holland.

Don't think they will, I can't see this squad beating anyone on penalties and I think the past 4? winners all had to win at least one match that went to penalties. Even with England having 10 men Portugal was content taking England to pens and didn't even bother attacking, they knew they were going to win at the end of regulation.

Lampard is the best penalty taker? If so that's sad. Lucky for him he's been getting decent power but the keeper always guess right on every single penalty shot he has. Gerrard is a piss poor penalty taker. Then who? Rooney (this is assuming he could go 120min w/o getting red carded), Barry, and uh jeez Beckham, Terry, Rio?!

Just a thought, last night the CBs were Terry and Upson. Lescott not even on the bench. Ferdinand to get fit and will no doubt be in there. To me it is looking like Capello will choose Terry, Ferdinand and Upson for his squad. Could well be that Lescott will find himself out in the cold. no SA for him.

which will mean he doesnt have to travel all over the world and will be fit for city's games and play outstanding (y)

England still cant keep the ball and play a good a good passing game IMO. Its still route one and wing play. The fact we have Lampard and Gerrard very little actually comes from the middle of the park.

Spain, Holland, Russia, Brazil, and even France (even if they arent the best at the moment) are still better teams IMO. Even Italy or Germany will prove VERY tough for us to break down because they are very subborn teams.

Off topic - but I think South Africa will do very well in the tournement. Pienaar will be massive after that World Cup IMO.

lescott looks like his place in the squad pretty much depends on jagielka's form when he comes back in november.

i would find it a very sweet moment if jagielka took lescott's place on the plane to SA.

its very very understandable mate that everton fans think that but im sure if lescott was still at everton the thinking would be different about JL.

how far is jags off his comeback? i was at the game last season and it looked a bad one.

Fair play to England, they were good last night.

Capello has got them playing effective and found a way to accommodate both Gerrard and Lampard. If we could now only find a way to stop the media from writing meltish stuff about them I might even will them to win a few games in the summer.

tbh even if lescott was still at everton and it was a choice between the two for a place at the world cup, most evertonians would like to see jagielka experience it over lescott.

jagielka is just better than lescott and if you came for him next summer i would be quite upset about that transfer.

thats down to gareth barry mate that both lampard and gerrard play well together.

i also think that a big umpa lumpa like heskey helps the team out aswell by getting the knockdowns and letting other players run off them.

Defo, they both have a place.

If Heskey could finish then England would be serious contenders.

its going to be interesting mate when joe cole comes back from injury aswell because i felt that milner has done pretty good when he has come on and when you think they likes of ashley young doesnt get a sniff and downing will be picked(altho i dont rate him) then its going to be very interesting.

Good shout that mate. and if Walcott recover fitness and form we have got the pace and guile to add to the cohesion and team spirit that Capello seems to have instilled.
