John Stones remains an accident waiting to happen, but even in goal Nick Pope has used these relatively untroubled three games to make the case for Jordan Pickford's return. Pope just can't kick a ball.

This has been a good international break for Jordan Pickford.

The writing was on the wall for Stones a few minutes earlier, when he foolishly tried to run the ball back to the keeper, instead of just playing safe and kicking it out of play, that almost cost a goal in itself.

Again, that problem was caused because Pope wasn't far enough out of his goal. Hopefully those people who want us to replace Pickford with Pope will now realise how that won't work with a team that plays out from the back.

Theres a flaw in all players game and John Stones is his concentration. But you dont be one of the prems best defenders over the last six months to the a poor one after one game.
Pope has inreased Pickfords role as no 1 for England after last nights game.

Nick pope dropped him in it there incapable of passing 10 yards under no pressure but because the media have got a hard on for him it won't get mentioned
It was bad play by Stones. But Pope did play the ball behind him which meant he had to go back and collect it then turn. By that time the Polish lad was practically on top of him.

Five words that say without a shadow of doubt why England won't win this summer.

"Jesse Lingard is coming on."
In fairness Grealish, Maddison, Sancho and Barnes are all injured

Wouldn't be totally shocked if Lingard went though. I have little trust in Southgate to pick the right players

Noone on here forgets that Jordan Pickford has made too many brain farts in the past to believe he's totally eradicated them from his game. He has though improved under Carlo's careful handling and does bring far more fluidity to a team playing from the back.

Contrary to what some here and in the press might say Pope is not without his own catalogue of errors too, but plays for Burnley were they can go unnoticed. In this international break he's almost shouted to Southgate to make Jordan his number one again asap. If nothing else the way Pope swings his leg at the ball like a 12 year old says it all.
