England v Poland

Noone on here forgets that Jordan Pickford has made too many brain farts in the past to believe he's totally eradicated them from his game. He has though improved under Carlo's careful handling and does bring far more fluidity to a team playing from the back.

Contrary to what some here and in the press might say Pope is not without his own catalogue of errors too, but plays for Burnley were they can go unnoticed. In this international break he's almost shouted to Southgate to make Jordan his number one again asap. If nothing else the way Pope swings his leg at the ball like a 12 year old says it all.
I'm not Pickford's biggest fan by any stretch of the imagination but he's easily England's best keeper. Stones obviously dithered but he was put under undue pressure by a terrible ball but Pope gets away Scot free, it wasn't even mentioned in commentary.

Remember him telling them to calm down too haha, this was the Martinez days with star jumps in goal, no Evertonian was going to be calm while stones was spinning on the ball in the box, except our orange cat friend ofcourse, he was chilled lol
Look at the clip of the incident
after 3 or 4 stepovers he was only 2 more from walking it into his own net.
He only got away with it because the other player accidently touched the back of his boot and the Reff gave him a daft free kick

Tyskie is decent.
I've got a sort of dare / unofficial stock request going on with the guy who runs our local Polish shop. Basically I'm having a bash at trying as many obscure polish beers going. He's probably making a killing out of me.

But of the fairly readily available stuff, I'm partial to Perla.

@Bohemian Toffee will probably call me a heathen. I like the Czech beers too, just sadly no one has set up a Czech food shop near where I live. There's a Latvian one, though. Not properly investigated their beers. Yet.

Back on topic- not sure why folk are slating Pope. Thought he was fine, albeit not tested too much. Stones proper made an arse of himself.

Heathen.

Also, no Pope, no Stones "moments". Pope can't kick, doesn't fit what Southgate wants to do and anyone who would take Pope over Pickford us is just spending money for the sake of it.

Back on topic - Latvia has some decent beers, the stuff they export has preservatives added so it's not all that special compared to the local stuff. But, if your guy can get anything that is Latvian and isn't Aldaris, Cesu or Lacplesis then go for it.

Pilsnerfest, our local beer festival (in the before time, in the long, long ago) had some Latvian brews pitch up. Quality: many a mulleted, mustachioed man in army surplus clothing gave it a solemn nod which is the highest form of commendation a Czech will give a foreign beer.

I don't think there is a higher accolade.

Never watched but the character assassination of Stones seems a bit ott.
I mean England did win.
I recall the media once felt it unfair to replay a goal again to save the goalies blushes.
Ronaldinho v Seaman?
So, it is unfair to criticise a player cos his team won, regardless of how he played and the fact you never even saw it?
That is literally Everton that, we can win 1-0, via an own goal in the 90th minute at a bottom table club, one of our players has an absolute mare and someone points it out but "quit moaning an enjoy the win.."

Hold on fella.
My point was they are selective who they pick on.

Dont think the op thinks it unfair, but the press/media do go ott with it. Watch the news last night, they said 'turn away now if you dont want to see an error blah blah' wtf. The media create so much pressure esp for England.

Criticism of Pope is understandably now widespread across all media because he showed why his kicking and distribution is such an issue. His short pass contributed to Stones mistake and he's no positional sense for a side wanting to play from the back.

He just can't kick accurately and swinging your leg at it like a 12 year old girl doesn't inspire confidence.

He had nothing to save but enough opportunity to show he's just not up to scratch when you need a keeper comfortable with the ball at his feet. Pickford came out of this international break with his hold on the England keeper's jersey considerably strengthened.

I pretty much agree on Stones. Tbh he's always had a mistake in him but he's worked hard on reducing them, with last night's more the exception than the rule. Nick Pope was partly at fault with the pass out behind Stones. Stones knowing Pope's poor ability would almost have turning and playing as a first option rather than giving it back to Pope.

A keeper can go along way to inspiring confidence and this applies with a keeper's kicking skills too. At City Ederson is comfortable with the ball at his feet and acts as an alternative outfield player if a defender's in trouble. Pope is the antithesis of this, he doesn't show himself and doesn't want the ball at his feet. He's also started to make poor keeping errors for Burnley recently too.

A change of keeper will do Stones the world of good, Pickford's kicking and passing while not absolutely top class is generally far better than the remedial standard provided by Pope.

Pope's display against Albania was embarrassing for a professional footballer, even a keeper. The surface wasn't great but that can't excuse that performance

I mean, that's quite the comedy gold perspective. Granted, maybe Pope isn't the ball playing keeper everyone
fetishizes at the moment. But you have to ask why, if he isn't a ball playing keeper, the idiot manager AND his idiot team mates are trying to play in a way he's not suited to. Play to strengths etc.

I also find the 'if Pickford was playing the Stones errors wouldn't have happened' argument unconvincing too. Stones ballsed up. The pass wasn't that bad. How do you know Pickford wouldn't have played a similar pass? You really can't say that for sure. It's not like Pickford hasn't got involved in comedic play either during his Everton career. That Spurs goal with Zouma, brilliant stuff.

Utterly odd.
