England v Ukraine

Rio Ferdinand was the dogs bollocks.

Sadly, he seems to be deteriorating, injuries are taking there toll on his body and judging by his 'sprint off' with Bellamy in the Manchester Derby he's lost some pace.

Or maybe it's just a blip, who knows.

See thats why I dont like England, Emile frigging Heskey, so, so bad. Why was he left on and Lennon was taken off.

Same way Moyes leaves Osman on and takes off Saha.

I think he's all done mate.

Im agree with Goat here. There's no midfield now Lennon's gone off and Rooney is playing attacking midfielder. Heskey's never too good with 11 men never mind 10. Carlton Cole is better than Heskey. End of.

Yes, I think Ferdinand is done now too.

Not disagreeing with anyone, just saying that all managers do their own thing and things that bemuse fans. Moyes does, Benitez certainly does and so does Ferguson. Capello will also make strange decisions, but you can't argue with his record, and if they lose this game it won't be because of Heskey.

For my money Ferdinand's the best defender in the country when the chips are down. Great organiser and competitor. He'll be there at the end of the season holding United together.

True. Probably after he's gifted the opposition a goal and they're 2-1 down with 20minutes of injury time to play.

You do have some mad thoughts don't you mate.

Were the chips not down when United needed to hold the ball in the last minute of the derby? He showed massive contempt for his fellow professionals with a whimsical flick - and he was justly punished.

Ferdinand is an egotistic player, probably got the biggest ego in the team. It's why he was never really in the running to be the captain.

I know why he's done it like. Hoof or give to Heskey who's strong to hold it up and let the midfield come through. But still even then I'd like to see Carlton Cole do that as he's more of an attacking threat also.

Ferdinand is probably the best defender in world football when he's at his best. That's been the case for the last 5 years or so, he's been a model of consistency.

Far better than anything else England have and if you ask any Manchester Utd fan, they'll tell you he's better than Vidic by quite a distance. He does usually hold them together and has done for a while.

Right, so he's just having a laugh now with his shiteness?

I won't disagree that Ferdinand was world class, just don't think he is good enough anymore.

He's far too cocky and believes his own hype.

I agree with that, his positional sense is also something of a joy to watch, he can give an absolute master class in defending.

But he's 30 now, cronic back problem, niggling injuries, his game time is slowly dropping....and he's making a lot of mistakes. Says something.

Just a lack of concentration really.

Come on it's not like it's the first time.

Thing is I am not surprised, his younger brother is the same (cocky that is), Richardson at Sunderland - all players with ego's - and they get in the way sometimes of their natural ability.
