Okay, you know what... I won't even reply to your comment because defendin the U.S. in football is a lost cause as it is....

so let's focus on what most people seem to be overlooking... England. Solid result from them tonight eh?

If I thought the U.S. were hopeless at football and that hanging on for a draw in a game they didn't turn up in was all they could hope for, then I'd pat you on the back for that performance. But, while that was a good result for you, you didn't play well at all and you're capable of doing a lot better.

The reason why us English fans are so depressed is that we managed to throw away a game we really should have won. And the reason we should have won is that, as bad as we played, you were worse.

I mean fair play for the point but the fact that you're happy with that performance and don't demand more is more damning that any insult I could say.

Mate seriously. You are one of the biggest windupers (new word there) on here. If you leave you are showing you can give, but cant take. it's all in good fun. Nobody here wants to hurt anyone.

Nothing to do with being wound up mate - I'm just bored of the bandwagon [Poor language removed]. And me hating that is obviously getting up other people's noses. I'm not here to cross swords, and I hate reading bandwagon stuff. Only over here eh?

So I'm going to enjoy my world cup. I didn't want to do this preview, Chico coaxed me into it - but I'd rather be with my own people which at the moment is not Evertonians, because at the moment I am not an Evertonian. If that is shocking then so be it.

For my own sanity I'll leave you all to bash England all you want.

artetafan `the wide men did well` er! i reckon the yanks played them perfectly - i was fed up with lennon early on and swp didnt shine at all, the yanks did a number on us and could have sneaked it

I thought they both had good games. And I thought Johnson was our best attacking player.

Also, they would have had to attack to sneak the win.

I agreed with everything you said up until the BOLD

Why would we put pressure on our boys when it's not needed.. I'm not sure what you read in England, but stateside we have been screaming DRAW would be a great result.. Yea I wanted us to sneak away with 3 points, but it did'nt happen.. Life goes on..

No American ever thought we would come in here and control possesion and walk away with a win, if they did they are either A: Bias or B: Dont know world football..

The English put to much pressure on their national side.. Considering the sport is a way of life there I can understand that..

donovan came close - twice , altidore hit the post and i`ve seen teams dominated entirely but still win. the england line-up was easy good enuf to win but it just didnt happen 2nite

you obviously don't watch the USA enough... I do ... everytime they play. Let me say this: England outclass the USA in ever position (minus keeper...whcih we saw tonight)... Do I expect the USA to win - certainly - against 85% of our opponents... but to claim that I am "settling" is a joke. Don't underestimate your side mate, England are a top 5 squad and we pulled off a draw in the WORLD CUP... (are you kidding?) I absolutely will take that... English papers were and members of this forum were claiming a 3-0 or 3-1 victory, which I MIGHT have agreed to before the match.

And can we play Joe cole next game please??

Wright-Phillips is sooo not a left winger.

Something like

Green
Johnson-Terry-Dawson(why not)-Cole
Lennon-Barry-Lampard-Cole
Gerrard
Rooney

Cheers Fab.

Fair play. I agree that a point is a great start for you guys. But my view, if I was a Yank, would be 'Good result but we were lucky and we need to play better than that if we're going to get anywhere'.

The fact that everyone here is all 'woohoo what a performance' just isn't something I understand. It's the first game out of three, after all. Are you just not worried at all about Algeria and Slovenia?

Or is not getting beat by the redcoats that important that how well you're playing is secondary?

100% correct. They expect to turn up and win. They build themselves up so much that when they fall it hurts even more.

Great points..
We (US) Totally expect to beat Slovenia and Algeria.. We will go into those games with the idea that 3 points is the only result.. anything less will be a failure..
But this England game is the one we were expecting to be vital.. A BIG loss could have shattered any confidence we might have.. we were expecting a loss, and possibly a draw.. We got the better of the two and it's party time..

Come friday if we lose to a good slovenia side, I will be Fuming.

c'mon brother... Ive been on this forum long enough to know that this is a bit of BS. When the USA lads (myself certainly included) were touting the "USA vs. Spain" game, everyone on here was bashing the yanks saying that it was just "one game" and not the real thing. This game, as far as the USA is concerned, was just as good as a victory. You know why? because we fully expect England to outclass Algeria and Slovenia...which means the USA probably only have to win one of their remaining matches to move on.

Let's recap the match in a sentence... USA pulled out a huge point and England disappointed. That's it.

We're not a top 5 squad mate. FIFA has us eighth which I think is fair and a lot of people I know think is too high. Don't build us up to be something we're not.

We're a quarter finals team, really. Anything further than that will delight us, anything less that is disapointing. But thats our natural position. Top 8 not top 5.
