England v USA, 12th June 2010

you obviously don't watch the USA enough... I do ... everytime they play. Let me say this: England outclass the USA in ever position (minus keeper...whcih we saw tonight)... Do I expect the USA to win - certainly - against 85% of our opponents... but to claim that I am "settling" is a joke. Don't underestimate your side mate, England are a top 5 squad and we pulled off a draw in the WORLD CUP... (are you kidding?) I absolutely will take that... English papers were and members of this forum were claiming a 3-0 or 3-1 victory, which I MIGHT have agreed to before the match.

I posted before the match (elsewhere) that my serious expectations were England win 45%, Draw 30%, USA win 25%. I actually think I about nailed it, but I got tons of [Poor language removed] for being utterly unrealistic about our chances.

Nothing really in America except obese people wearing shorts.

The beach I was at all day says otherwise. Beautiful creatures everywhere. The ocean was perfect temperature, bikinis splashing all over the place. And where I went after that tonight, I don't believe obese people in shorts are even allowed or exist. Although pretty sure I did see 2 ridiculous women kissing & dancing the forbidden dance, w/ some neon liquor licked off each other & hula hoops thrown in for good measure.

Just sayin'. In some parts, obese people in shorts are like unicorns, something you hear about in stories but nobody really believes or can confirm actually exist.

I did not think of that, and you are right. More astute you are.

Findley was basically AJ today. His job was to get forward and make a nuicance of himself. If there is one thing he could have done though is that he should of put more pressure on the CBs in the attacking end when he didn't have the ball. Cole and Johnson weren't drifting back to help the CBs out and if he could have forced just one bad pass we might have had a free shot on goal. When Davies was healthy he was excellent at doing just that.

We have Burger Kings for that. Obese people in shorts stay off the beach or they thankfully wear their XXXXXXL T-shirts to cover their hideous bodies.

Massive result for USA USA!! We came in for the draw and we got it. Now England can't piss away the final match and that is very big.

Bradley just took a massive dump on Capello. Capello was a stark raving lunatic when they had a 1-0 lead and his subsitutions were idiotic. England's tactics were completely [Poor language removed]. The way to beat the US is to be direct (which is one thing Englands does well) attack right up the middle and to keep the ball on the ground. Our defensive strength is handling the airal game and time after time you just delievered cross after cross into the box which Gooch and DeMerit easily cleared. Didn't anyone notice that all of England's quality scoring opportunites came from keeping the ball on the ground (so naturally I guess the smart thing to do is to bring on the wet noodle Crouch and hoof it to him late)? As far as the statement that Euro coaches are soooooooo much better well I haven't seen a European coach who doesn't pick a lineup based on the club shirt the player wears. Carragher isn't good enough to play CB for the US anymore (wouldn't anyone on Watford trade DeMerit, an unfit player with limited depth perception for Carragher right now?). He's just there because he plays for the RS. There is no excuse for leaving Jags off the squad and/or Upson off the field.

Bradley on the other hand for the most part did every right. Remember the mission was to get a draw. Torres was left off for Clark and while Torres could have supplied Donovan more maybe we would have lost something in defense. Clark did let Gerrard get free but was solid for the rest of the match and kept Rooney in check.

Oh and as far US being "lucky" well maybe we were fortunate to get the goal. However England was fortunate that Green "saved" Altidore's shot on goal. England was also lucky that Carragher didn't get sent off (though in fairness you might have done better) and if the ref was a bit more card happy Milner could have also got sent off. Our best player, Howard, showed up tonight and was a leader. Rooney on the other hand was reduced to whining b/c he couldn't unlock 2 unfit CBs.

hahahaha... let's be honest, england struggled against the mediocre U.S. backline

I thought Findley was decent, not very strong...this isn't the MLS, grow up Son.

The US back 4 plus Clark was great except for one moment early in the match...

The game was there to win for both sides, so in that respect it's a bit disappointing. But keep the eye on the prize and everything will work out for both squads.

Spot on that. While I did not agree with BB lineup in leaving off Torres and Buddle, I was surprised at how well Dolo, Gooch and Demerit played. They took on Rooney and gave him little, and Howard was a god in goal. BB needs to start Buddle and leave Findlay as a sub coming in with speed to burn, and hoping that he can finish. Not unhappy, but if only with Altidore. He is, though looking like he could improve with more games under his belt. He just turned 21 a day or so ago. Commentators were listing him at 20. I thought he had a BD recently. I hope both England and US go through.....Hoping

Dolo has been great for a month, and finally showing the form that he's had in Germany for the national team. He really composes the back line.

Our back line isn't mediocre. Cherundolo has looked great on the right in the England game and the three friendlys. Demerit has looked solid and Gooch was pretty good considering it was the first 90 min he has gotten since October. Boca wasn't his best today.

I will have to disagree with you my man... USA's back line is pretty thin... i wouldn't rely on them too much.

that said, it is what it is. I am red-white-and blue through and through..... we'll get it done.

I didn't say it was good, I just said that they weren't "mediocre".
