England vs Israel

Well not to defend the cock, how come he satisfied the last point there? :)

he only played heskey because he had no choice, otherwise he would have played rooney and owen.

FACT.

A good choice is one made from many choices, a good choice when its the only choice is not a good choice at all.

Well it wasn't the only choice, because he could have played AJ or Defoe. You can only make choices with what you have. He made the right choice by playing Heskey and not AJ.

I still cant believe how carried away people are getting with a decent performance over that great footballing nation- ISRAEL! Yes you can only beat whats put in front of you, but as of late we havent really been beating anyone. Heskey did ok against ISRAEL. The interchange of positions did ok against ISRAEL. Robinson did ok against ISRAEL- see where im going with this?

Russia will provide a much sterner test one I hope that all the above do ok at as well. Its not aboyut not getting behind the team its about being realistic about what has happened in recent months/years.

Out of 9 games Israel have scored 17 points, won 5 games. I don't particularly see that as a team that is instantly beatable like you obviously do, and obviously I don't want to annoy you by disagreeing with you, but they are a team that needed to be beaten, and England on their current form did very well to beat a team that only a couple of years back beat a very good French team.

If it was Macedonia or Estonia, fair enough, but Israel are a technically good team and we played well against them to stifle and win comfortably.

To be fair though Ghost, who were those five wins of Israel's against? It's a bit like saying Darlington are good because they have 11 points in Division 2. None of those Israel players would have been picked for England and none are first choice for a PL side either. The gulf in class should really be huge, and to be honest I include Russia and Croatia in that on a player by player analysis. Qualifying for these tournaments should be a given, half of our trouble is that we trumpet qualification as though its a big thing rather than actually winning it.

You wont annoy me by disagreeing with me you will annoy when you are rude and patronising which in this response you werent.

What i am getting at Ghost is that we have a squad most of which are supposed to be world class players earning a fortune- against a team most of which ply their trade in the 'lesser leagues'. I am as passionate an england supporter as you will find but I have watched and hoped far too often players like Emile Heskey would be the answer to our prayers- to me it smacks of desperation a recall for him altgough I agree with you he did 'ok' the other night.

But credit wheres its due the line up against Israel was attacking and I though SWP was absolutely superb- he and Richards down that side looked awesome. Cole and Cole on the other side had plenty to offer going forward and the thought the pairing of Barry and Gerrard worked better than most central pairings ive seen for England in a long time.

I really hope that Heskey is picked and plays well on wednesday night but I really have my doubts he will be anywhere near as effective against the Russians as he was against Israel- Just my opinion mind.

picking barry to me was the best choice, a solid centre allowing the left and right to do there job.

mclaren has big choice IMO to make, Terry OR ferdinand - my choice - Ferdinand.

Gerrard OR Lampard - my choice - Gerrard.

Rooney OR owen - no brainer - Rooney.

I'd love to see ahston up front with rooney, I'd love to see lescott pair with ferdinand in defence, two players so attuned with the game, I'd love to see Gerrard paired with hargreaves every game from the start...

BUT..

none of this will ever happen. SAD.

Well you will remind me when I am being patronising won't you. :)

Or get Suits to do so ;)

Fair comments all of them. I know its not great football in terms of the build up to that goal for Argentina last year, but I recognise an emerging side in SWP and Richards. I thought we did a job without really hitting the heights, but we played well, we passed well. You can't deny that.

Ferdinand over Terry? Are you stoned? seriuously. Terry is a rock and would play with a broken leg if he could.
