Equal pay

The US Soccer thing with the Women's team is a complicated issue that basically boils down to having to have different systems because the bonuses for the Men's World Cup are many multiples greater than that for the Women's. The Women accepted the different system but now say they have to work harder to make the same amount. And they're probably not wrong but US Soccer on its own can't fix the issue unless FIFA is going to hand out similar amounts. FIFA can't do that because they aren't getting the ad money at the same level.
The women's team were offered literally the same pay structure. They declined it.

You think that’s why it’s a lower standard? Nothing to do with physical ability, speed of play, etc?
I don’t think physicality of speed of play need to be equal to the men’s game for the women’s product to be of equal entertainment value.

In much the same way people will say different top leagues aren’t as physical or quick as the PL, but they’re still great to watch.

Correct. Women's tennis in the 80's was just as good as men's tennis. It was a different game - less power, more precision, probably more net-crashing. It had personalities, rivalries and talent. It was an equally good watch, and men's tennis was a great watch then.

Women can't win this one by playing quite the same way men do. They could send out ten outfield players that could all pass like Iniesta. We'd watch that.

I'm conflicted on this because on the one hand, you could argue that the men agreeing to reduce their fee so the women's team can have more is a great gesture and shows that they see the womens team as equals. But you could also argue that its the worst tokenism. The male players are on so much money their international fee is irrelevant to them, but that fee ultimately comes from, attendance, TV, sponsorship and advertising and in reality the women's game is miles behind. For me the male players and female players should be paid preportionate to the revenue they create. Once they have been paid if the players want to donate it to charity, it's up to them

Apologies if this is insensitive but someone smart please help me out here…Seems like USSF is doing what they’ve been pushed to do again, and the side that’s been using the court of public opinion to gain influence this entire time is now mad the federation said something publicly that is basically showing they’ve again offered what the uswnt claimed they wanted. Hypocrisy?

I think it's a PR stunt because they're saying they're offering identical deals only if the teams agree to take identical FIFA prize money. So essentially they're pushing that issue of a $370m gap onto the Men's team. Which tbf USSoccer can't fix it either. This has really gotten so stupid.

Watched the Morgan interview, and she’s essentially now saying even if it’s equal, which they’ve claimed is all they’re looking for, if it’s not what they want and doesn’t include what they already have (guarantees if we’re reading between the lines) then it’s still not good enough. Seems like a “have your cake and eat it too,” type deal at this point.

As for equalizing FIFA prize money, I won’t get too deep into it because that argument does my head in.

The FIFA prize money bit I genuinely don't get. I'm trying my best but making it equal is a preposterous non-starter so what are we even doing there?

They want their cake, and to eat it too.

It's simple. Income

Men's world Cup- 2 billion
Women's world Cup- 100 million

Enough said
