I think we agreed a fee in the summer, we couldn't actually afford him, then Fulham came in for him and agreed a fee, then he turned up at the medical, cried and ran off.

Thelwell obviously still driving things. Feels like every player if they’re not a free transfer is just minimum 20 mill euros now.

That's just cause Thelwell clearly can't negotiate, look at the likes of Murillo (£13m) Milenkovic (£12.5m) at Forest and at Bournemouth that Kerkez (£12m) There are a few others just from recent seasons. Still good deals to be had but I'm really dubious about how extensively we scout for players (That applies to the entire recruitment team not just Thelwell) and we have never been good at the whole contract/negotiations side of things either.

Don’t think it’s the time to take what clearly is a massive gamble on a attacker with 0 goals and assists this season.

Maybe in the summer if we’re still in the league but if we spend a big chunk of the budget on this kid, I’ll be nervous.

Most of those are pretty close to that mark though, between 15-20 mill for literally unknown players.

Back in the day Moyes could go and get proven championship star players like Baines and Lescott for 5 or 6 mill at a time when top players were going for 20-30 mill.

If you wanted a player like Baines now from a championship team the price would be eye watering.
