ESPN bids for US Premier League rights

NBCs coverage is the best in any sport at the moment imo. Lowe, Earle, Mustoe, Howard all solid (Tim started out shaky). ESPN sucks snd everything it touches withers. I hope NBC keeps it, especially since while I don’t like paying extra for Peacock premium it’s not thst much an I will be super pissed if I can’t get every Everton game
You'll be able to get every game no matter who the carrier of the rights is. Not having every game available to stream at a minimum will be a nonstarter.

Doesn't Peacock show all the matches that aren't on cable?

Peacock is rad because it has weird sports like biathlon and athletics competitions on it...with no commentary. It's intoxicating.

I loathe ESPN and have overall been happy with NBC's service....not super excited about the potential of going back.
They show most of Everton matches but usually a day later, it drives me crazy. There is not point to pay for subscription to watch Everton games if they are not going to be shown live. I had it with them and im
dropping them.

Which is exactly why I cut the cable cord a long time ago...having to have 3-5 different "packages" to watch what you actually want to is a joke. At one point, my cable bill was over $200 a month for me to have access to the less than 10 channel's I actually watched, since I don't watch TV in general. Meanwhile, I'm seeing things like NFL Game Pass, MLB.TV etc happening while the PL is (still) in the stone age.

The NFLs availability in terms of getting a package in the US is awful, and it's like 300 bucks.

I pay 120 for my basic cable and internet, it was $5 a month for NBC Sports Gold when it started. It's now $10, but comes with much less.

It's not the accessibility of the MLB, but it wasn't and still isn't expensive or hard to watch every game in the US. I don't know what you're complaining about. It's as cheap or cheaper than every other sport.

Espn+ is even cheaper, the coverage will be as well. You'll get one TV show dedicated to covering the leagues games unless this deal is going to include a lot of TV time. The problem is, ESPN already has massive resources poured into college football and the college football playoffs. I don't see them dedicating as much network time the EPL as NBC does.

That said NBCSN is going away so I'm not sure what NBC network coverage is going to be or look like going forward. The difference between the two comes down to that and the TV personalities. Personally, I like all the NBC studio people for the most part. Not the same for espn for me.

Do you have cable? The games aren't available live because they're either on NBC or on cable.

We don’t have cable but to watch Everton and Colombia’s games we have Hulu, IPTV, FuboTV and used to have Peacock. Too many subscriptions, specially given our family watches very little programming except football.

They had the Premier League rights about ten years ago. They did a better job than Fox Sports but not as good as NBC’s coverage imo. Way too much McManaman and didn’t feel like a priority of the network due to college football, NFL, etc on the weekends
By the standards we’ve had since NBC took over, ESPN was an abomination. They only showed one PL game (the one on Monday night) a week as I recall, and had some slightly increased coverage for the final match day. Literally anyone but ESPN please. For all their shortcomings, NBC does at least make all the matches for every club available to watch.

Could care less about the NFL, MLB (or the NBA), I'm using them as an example of what's possible in regards to platform streaming...however those league's choose to feck that platform up is their own problem. I just think it's hilarious, after what will be 29 years for me soon, how much the league/clubs have waffled on about overseas supporters but continue to make it a PITA to consistently and reliably engage with their bread and butter product in our own homes...and here we go again, apparently. I shouldn't say "we" TBH because, after all these years, I have my own methods for getting what I'm looking for without having to to worry about what 'kin subscriptions/tiers to various entities I have, so it's all good...but there is a reason I do it and will continue to.

If they cared about the US market, which I doubt they really do as this country doesn't care about this variety of football as a whole (which is why the broadcast situation keeps changing; US fans need to stop kidding themselves...it's lip service), then they'd look at alternative methods of getting it out there, reliably and with much less aggravation and hassle to us.

Perhaps I was wrong but your post I quoted seemed to praise those leagues for what they were doing with their respective services comparable to what is now cheaper than Peacock.

I've had the NFL ticket, NFL Game pass which you listed is great, and very very similar to what Peacock is for the EPL. It's actually it because it isn't available in the US legally, well the version you want that shows live games. To get that, which I have, you have to use a VPN.

I have had the NBA Pass, (NBA is far more expensive you're talking 150 bucks for a single teams games but it's better in atleast you can get that vs like 300 or whatever for the whole thing.. they also used to offer individual games for like 10 bucks which was decent. This kind of structure is the only thing another league offers that would improve EPL's access in the US.

I've had the MLS thing back in the 90s, my friends are baseball and hockey fans so I've been around those products pretty closely as well. NHL is pretty much where the EPL is at.

You listed all this things and I haven't a clue why. I don't think you know why. I've owned these things, Peacock and what NBC has offered is better than any of these things.

The reason the carriers keep changing isn't because the league doesn't care. That's so utterly clueless.

Football is by far the worst sport (maybe outside boxing or ufc if that's your thing) for fans to follow at this point given we that every league seems to have its own service. ESPN in the states seems to finally be getting multiple leagues at the same time. For 5.99, you could get Serie A, Bundesliga and EPL. If that price holds it would be amazing.

But I could see how Peacock in your case causes issues and shows games late. My mother has Hulu, and they are getting better but they have some really weird things going on with blackouts and when you can watch certain games. I didn't think about that earlier.

Would much rather see a coherent NBC offering available with live streaming of all matches. ESPN is middling at best in terms of coverage, broadcast talent, etc.

The current sense of having to stream 3 different services and checking scheduling every few days for changes is quite bothersome.

Only thing wrong with Peacock is the inability to record games or watch them on delay.
ESPN are like a local cable channel when it comes to footy, so I'd rather they didn't get the rights. Wayne and Garth had better staff and production value than those bellends

Yeah, me and my two friends split a youtubeTV account (just to get NBC sports) which greatly reduces the cost; it's 780$ a year
