ESPN bids for US Premier League rights

NBC retain the rights for 6 years paying $2.7bn, up from $1.1bn before! Big boost to PL clubs that.

The one major league thing is very correct and I wonder when the PL will realize it. They can be the "Super League" without having to involve anyone else.

As far as the rights go it'll be interesting to see how it all works with NBCSN still set to go dark. I assume they'll have to put more on USA/CNBC.

Oh I’d be very shocked if they don’t make a bargaining agreement in the near future to take games abroad or whatever. It’s a matter of time.

Of course there’s only one big league.

Spain favourited Barca and Real for years, making it so lopsided. France and Germany has one major side which typically monopolise and then there’s Italy which has just had that spell with Juventus, but is governed horrendously.

Great business for the Premier League.

Agreed...the price is insane to the point where folks (writing above) had opted out completely. But I really need some PL games in my weekend routine, I can't quite claim it as a medical issue, but it does count as "therapeutic" to watch a bunch of matches at the weekend.

Completely agree. It's the "competitive" nature of not having a singular dominant 1/2 teams who win the title every year.

I think that a few of the non English Super League teams have realized this and that is one of the issues pushing that whole idea. With TV rights deals like this, most of the PL teams can afford to rival almost any European team for a player purchase.

Well yea when you put any cable service at the cost of the year it seems even more absurd.

My internet, cable and all my subscription are around 150 a month or 1,800 a year lol.

yeah, that pretty much the estimates me and my friends were arriving at as well. This is what prompted us to pool together to split things like youtubetv, espn+, paramount+, peacock...all in the name of soccer!
