Let's face it, getting to the final in these circumstances isn't something to celebrate - it absolutely had to be expected with literally every good team in the other side of the draw.

The performances, apart from tonight, have been largely awful. Tonight they came across the 'best' possible opposition in their half of the draw, and they - Netherlands - played absolutely awfully all game.

The referee handed them a penalty that should never have been awarded - a truly scandalous decision that has cost Netherlands dearly.

An unreal sequence of luck for England to get to the final, and they'll need another huge stroke of good fortune if they're to win the thing. Yet they might still do, seem to have the rub of the green.

It’s not luck when it keeps happening. You’ve got to qualify, you’ve got to get out the group, you’ve got to beat who is infront of you. England didn’t even qualify for 1994 and 2008, they didn’t get out of the group in 1992, 2000, 2014. Gareth has had some good draws yes but he’s putting himself in the position to get them. Hodgson went out to Iceland! Previous England teams don’t beat Colombia Sweden Croatia Germany Denmark Switzerland Netherlands. You can keep calling all of them crap but when your record is 2 finals and a semifinals from 4 tournaments and there’s only two semi finals in 50 years before you eventually the results speak for themselves.

I dunno. I just look at this tournament and it would have been an utter disgrace if England hadn't have got to the final with the situation being as it was after the group stage. Plus they were absolutely appalling in all three group games which somehow ended up rewarding them in the end by having them avoid all of the good teams.

Imagine being told that to get to the Euro final the hardest team you'd have to beat is one of the worst ever Dutch teams.

Look at the teams Spain have beat and their other results. Night and day.
