…I think that’s entirely wrong.

It looked to me like players were brought on to take the penalties. Players didn’t have a say, players were told. Not sure how you can blame any experienced players in that situation.

I’m sure we’ll find out if I’m right, but why bring those players on in the last minute if it wasn’t to take a penalty.

Southgate is a scientific manager, he’ll know who the best penalty takers are in training but the best managers have a feel for the game. Science isn’t always best.

Not that Italy were hugely more progressive, but I can't say I'm disappointed that the negative dirge that Southgate served up didn't win. For all the attacking talent they have, Southgate plays a defensive, negative, boring style. He needs called out on it. Give those players to an offensively minded coach and England walk that final.
