Europa Conference League

Disregard shown to the League Cup and FA Cup by who though? Not me, I'd bite your hand off to win either of those!
Fortunately for me, seen three League wins, went to the CWC final 84/85 and four FA Cup finals from 1966, so done it and worn the t shirt. Can't even be bothered with a Europa place. Am only dreaming of a top four finish and a Champions lge place asap. For me that's the be all and end all at the moment.

I'd always jump at the chance of us playing in nice warm European city, someone in Spain, Portugal etc would be nice.
Knowing our luck we'd draw someone in the most remote part of Russia who play on a plastic pitch

Did you read the big where I said about us playing selected teams? In reply to teh poster I quoted who mentioned those selected teams?

No. Only jumped on the thread a bit late.

Personally I'm all in favour of a 3rd level Euro competition but I'd still strongly argue that if we're looking at players to ultimately take the club into the CL and competing at the top of the table then that level of player isn't seeing Europa Conference football as a selling point of the club.

From a fans perspective I can see the appeal of a European night, going supporting your team in places you'd never think of going and another stab at silverware. I think that maybe a few are projecting that appeal onto players who, from a top level league perspective, are looking at a less than prestigious cup that involves extra matches, less rest, and less time with family.

And I still think the proposed format with the competition offering a landing mat for CL and Europa clubs to drop onto completely negates the alleged point of the competition - To provide meaningful European competition for clubs from smaller leagues that aren't strong enough to meaningfully compete in the current competitions.

Even better.

Sign me up for some Georgian team, where we can all enjoy some cracking food, scenery snd Ellis Simms Hattricks.

I like any type of European competition. But it'd be better to have at least two english teams, because being in the European Conference League seems to be the competition no one wants to be in.

Also make no mistake - this is just to make the europa league look better, so teams like Arsenal and Man U don't have to travel to Kazakhstan's 3rd best team in Central Asia. Hope we get 6th and send Spurs to play in the Conference League.

The cup winners' Cup though, apart from Bayern every side we faced in that was pony. Southall even says in Howard's Way that Kendall went out and watched Rapid Vienna before the final and came back laughing his arse off at how poor they were. That night is still held up though as one of if not the proudest moment in the club's history.

Clubs should celebrate every trophy they win which they legitimately qualified for, even if they've got their eyes on bigger things. The Intertoto Cup had zero merit because there was no criteria to take part, you literally applied lol. Embarrassing.

that’s not how I remember it mate. Yes, Bayern was the most incredible night ever at Goodison but I also remember we almost got dumped out in the first round by University College Dublin.

Went to all the home games and Fortuna Sittard away. Didn’t go to Bratislava away. I honestly don’t really remember any of those home games being forgone conclusions. More of a feeling phew we got through that, wonder what’s next.

true after Bayern remember thinking Rapid were going to be easier but they had a striker called Hans krankl who was a very good player at the time. It was only when Sheeds got the third did I think we’re gonna win this.

Personally, I’d take this if we missed out on the CL / EL.

To me, after my wife and kids, there’s nothing better in life than following the Blues on an away day. That away day being in some totally random part of Europe you’d never even contemplate visiting otherwise would make it even better.

In fact I’m already looking forward to beating a team like ATV Irdning 22-0 again in the qualifying round, and reliving the glory days of the start of Silva’s tenure.

WE’RE ALL ON THE MARCH WITH CARLO’S ARRRRRRMY!!!! etc etc.

agree with you mate. Some of the best European trips include
Kharkhiv
Olomouc
Nuremberg

never ever gonna go those places in my life ever again but full of great memories.

I think that's what European aways are all about for me.

Yes, the ideas of your Bayerns are fantastic, but going placed you'd never normally dream of going, like Hanover, Split, Minsk.... absolutely fantastic.

If we pull out trips to Luxembourg, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia then i'll be all for it.

Are you planning on going on holiday in the next 6 months?

Don’t people think we’d really just embarrass ourselves in the champions league with this squad?
I think a dose of realism is needed tbh
