I think the reply they gave isn't fully correct. Away Cup games count according to the recent update on the OS about the ticketing system.
MATCH CREDITS FOR 2017/18 SEASON
We also wish to clarify the awarding of match credits for the Club’s away ticket allocations. Supporters are awarded one credit for each home cup game and any competitive away fixture (friendlies not included) that they attend during the 2017/18 season.
Last season's credits are still applicable for this current season but credits earned so far from the current campaign will be applicable soon for the remainder of 2017/18.

Split and Atalanta away might not count at all unless we go to the latter stages of the Europa league . I didn’t go to either and didn’t attempt to just get a credit for either . But I think this is harsh on the fans that actually bothered going . I suppose the abuse of the credit system doesn’t help people .

seen as I don't think ill get a ticket on my ST alone, me and a few mates are going, ( even if we don't have tickets ) but my mate seems to think he can get them and has done it before by changing his ip and getting them in the home end

Yeah true enough .
Might be best just buying an e ticket for one of their upcoming home games. Either way, the e ticket for our game isn’t made available to download until 31st October anyway.

Southampton last year was end of Nov and still went on credits from 15/16 season. So it'll probably be Limassol and the derby this year that are the first games based on this season's.

They wont. Atalanta tickets didn't. They did sell tickets on the evening of the match at the ground, but only to people who lived in and around the Lyon area. You needed to take proof of address along in order to be able to buy tickets!
I think the codes have already been sent out, although it might be worth a try.
