Heard today on the radio Australia were voted out last night ??? Surely I’ve heard wrong ? Australia in a European competition ?

They were invited to take part in the 60th contest (2015) because the broadcaster SBS has been showing the event since the early 80's - hoping their enthusiasm wears off before they win one.

Why are Israel not banned for slaughtering 35,000 Palestinians? Anybody who thinks that response was proportionate is a fascist.
And that's before we even begin to discuss what happened to Palestinians in 1949. Invaded? Wiped out and pushed off their own land by a gang of far-right headbanging "settlers".

I'd love it if that happened. It'll confirm for plenty of us that we've been made mugs of over Ukraine. Human rights, my arse. We were told that the Russians were assaulting human rights - they were and are - and that the West stood for human rights. So we supported - and support - Ukraine. However, apparently, 35,000 Palestinians have no entitlement to human rights and the West is telling us that what's happening there is "different".
Nah, it's not lads. Support for Ukraine will become a lot more conditional the way things are playing out now. Eurovision is merely a trivial tip of the iceberg, but it'll certainly shine a light on how massively self-serving Europe/The West is if the Israelis win with a "sympathy" vote a la Ukraine. I didn't see the Ukrainians wiping out thousands of Russian civilians. To their eternal credit. Yet, the Israelis are worthy of support - even a trivial televote - while obliterating 35,000.
I suspect this will be the end of the Eurovision if this happens. All the talk of minority rights, etc., shown up as a sham.

Well, the Israelis might contend that they were booted out of their homeland by the Romans and the Arabs originally. Hence the Diaspora.

Well, whatever about the historical wounds on both sides, one thing reasonable people can agree on is that murdering 35,000 people in cold blood - whatever their ethnic background - is an appalling abuse of human rights and cannot be tolerated by decent people of any background. To have them taking part in a kitsch song contest - whilst kicking out others who have perpetrated human rights abuses (Russia) - is the height of self-serving propaganda and shows people up for the hypocrites they so clearly are. We, the West, clearly hold ourselves to lower standards than we hold our traditional enemies.
