Match Thread Everton 0-1 Aston Villa - Wednesday 15th January 19:30

Villa are a better team than us clearly, but when you’re playing 8th in the league at home… it has to be seen as a decent opportunity to get a result.

Their away record is P9 W3 D1 L5 …and that includes losing their last 5 away(admittedly it’s against Spurs, Liverpool, Chelsea, Forest and Newcastle).

Lost their last 5 away - good, they won't like coming to Goodison next then

When did Forest suddenly become an ok place to lose?

Gonna be really interesting to see the team that's sent out, what shape Moyes goes with, and whether any fringe players, like Patterson and O'Brien, come into the line-up. I know it's been mentioned before, but I can see Moyes really liking Mangala and Ndiaye, they're both very Moyesy players. I can see the team being;

Pickford

Young
O'Brien
Tarkowski
Branthwaite
Mykolenko

Ndiaye
Mangala
Gueye
McNeil

DCL

Deffo going to be wrong, though.

This is a tough game for us. A draw is a good result, a score draw is a very good result, a win would be the dream start. I don’t expect David Moyes to come in and immediately make the players we currently have into a top six side, I do expect him to come in and set the team up to try and score and to try and win. We will lose games with this strategy but we will also win games. The next big test for us as a club is to see who we get in over this window, hopefully we are a more attractive proposition to forwards now that Sean Dyche has gone. We need a forward looking midfielder and a right winger to balance up the team. It will be interesting to see how David Moyes goes about addressing our obvious weaknesses.

Exactly. Yes, Villa are favourites as they are a good side and we aren't - but this has to be a match we target for points. If we're going to lower our sights on targeting only those clubs around us, well, not sure we needed a new manager for that.

Yep, 3pts for win was starting to get lost on dyche. may be we trade off a couple more goals conceded over 2nd half of season (potentially) but wud be great if players got support higher up field and we witnessed some overlaps n crosses from better positions.
