When we played the Spurs, unfortunately the tone was set early on with the brain fart by Pickford attempting to clear and hoof it that was put away by Son. Our defence has improved in form since then, especially with Branners back healthy. And honestly, Spurs is on a downward trend.

Villa is an excellent team with one of the best coaches in Europe. Sadly our fortunes went completely in different directions when both clubs were struggling in 2022 and it was obvious a change in manager was needed.

Aston Villa fired Steven Gerrard on 20th October 2022, and Unai Emery was announced two days later and started with them on 1st November. After Emery started with Villa they went on to win five of their first seven games and had basically assured safety by February despite being touted as amongst the favourites for the drop up until November.

Everton on the other hand dallied, in the same timescale we lost six of the next seven, at which point Lampard was dismissed and Dyche was brought in.

Villa are now flourishing, successive seasons in Europe and have players on their bench that we could only dream of having in our starting XI, we have gone back to our ex-manager of a decade ago in another attempt to stave off relegation. The only one thing we now have over Villa is the new ground, and that alone cannot propel us up the division.

Hopefully we can pull off an unexpected victory with a buoyant crowd behind the team, boy do we need it.

3-0 the villa then..?

We are going to get absolutely turned over here.
More attack, less defence means we won’t do either with any certainty.
Villa will no doubt target our Full Backs, who will be instructed to push up and leave gaping holes behind them.

A bloodbath, nobody gets out alive.
Aston villa have been incredibly erratic this season so its really an enigma on how sharp they'll be on Weds, also they are not as strong away

Do they miss the midfield dynamism of Douglas Luiz? They've played out of their minds in the CL and suffered a bit in the league. An old story.

Not really, the problem has been missing someone in the Diaby position and being able to transition with pace. Because of that teams didn't double-up on Bailey as they didn't have time to and so he had free reign on the right. This season things break down when the ball gets to him as sides sit deep against us and then launch the ball and counter us. We haven't had an answer to it all season and have been poor defensively. We look laboured because of that and maybe with Ramsey coming back in - he was injured for most of last season, and this, he may give us the spark that we need.

Desperate record against them since they came back up.

Would be a great time to do something about that, and a wonderful start for Moyes.

I expect we'll make a good contest of it. Hard to predict the outcome. Although there is a big gap between the teams, let's not think we're playing Real Madrid.

1-1.
