Kind of makes a mockery of the idea that Moyes' contract situation is hampering the players. Still can't get over the effort and desire shown from the start. Brilliant performance.

How does it?

All today was was a team of professional footballers knowing that if they didn't put the effort in they'd be crucified by the crowd. It has nothing to do with the Moyes situation.

A few observations:

1) Probert, the less said the better.

2) Coleman: Dare I say his best ever performance in an Everton shirt? Why yes, yes I will.

3) Anichebe: If there are any doubters left, they're idiots plain and simple and deserve to be ignored. Next time you hear some "supporter" get on his back, tell 'em to go to hell.

4) Gibson: Solid, solid, solid. Always good on the ball and positioning always in the right spot. A winner.

5) Mucha: My guess is that Howard might have to fight to get his spot back. I will hold my hand up and say that I was dead wrong about him. Of course getting a run of games will help but he was nothing short of spectacular today and I don't think I'm exaggerating.

6) Fellaini: Proved a lot to me and to the supporters today. Busted. His. Arse.

7) Heitinga: THAT'S the Johnny I know !!! Excellent match today and I believe every decision he made was a good one.

8) Naismith: Yeah, I don't think he's Premier League quality but I will give credit where credit is due. It was HIS tackle that got the ball to Fellaini, to Jelavic....GOAL !!! More of that please when you're on the pitch Steven.

9) Jelavic: I almost started crying when he scored. I'm not lying. You could tell the weight was finally off his shoulders with a BIG GOAL at a crucial time. Loved that every player when over to him to celebrate.

Not forgetting Distin, Baines, Pienaar, Mirallas & Osman as all played very very well.

I said before the match that the result didn't matter as much to me as the response by the players and the effort they put out on the pitch today.

Well, it's easy to say that I was thrilled.

Well done Moyes. Well done Everton.

Exactly what I said.

i would have been very very surprised after last weeks embarrassing performance if this wasnt on show today.....DM takes the majority blame for last week but you knew by his press conference he was lost for words to describe what he had just seen so im quite sure "making an effort" and " tracking back" was embedded into the players this week

Nah, it definitely does. The contract is a separate issue that hasn't changed and yet, the performance was fantastic. What today was, was a realisation that last week they let everyone down and had to put it right. Literally the only people making an issue of the contract are the fans and press. The players showed today that they're decent pros who new they were in the wrong last week and made sure that what was still left to play for wasn't lost.

Last week they didn't play for the manager.

This week they played for their own professional pride.

They're not related.

Do you really think the players are so bothered about the contract situation after Moyes has said himself it's not an issue, that it'd directly affect their performances? I cannot see it for the life of me. When they go out on the pitch is that really going to play on their minds? Not for me, in a million years.

haha love what finnish commentator said before the game
"goodison is amazing stadium, i love the atmosphere, it is old, it is crowded and it smells like a old english wall-to-wall carpet"

XX

And another comment

" look at that place, beautifull! Old english stadium, wind cant get in there"

Ffs i love Rautiainen

With respect, today was just one game. Our form has been iffy since January (at least).

We appear to have pissed off the mirror somehow:

"City fell behind to Leon Osman’s spectacular first-half fluke"
"City’s sense of injustice increased when Jelavic killed the game in injury-time."

apparently no disallowed goals though...

edit: can't post a link because I've just recreated this account (it died in the great transfer day imbroglio) but addy is
