If Pienaars out for Villa, rest him, and get those available learning to play together. Cahill/Lescott/Arteta on 4 yellows, cant afford them suspended for Villa (as its over 7 days from this game) so rest them. It wont do them no harm. Jo needs match practice, so give it him, if he doesnt do the job, bring cahill on and revert to our tried and trusted method.

I love this - Shandy puts in one decent cross and suddenly he's in everyone's starting lineup.

He's not fit enough to start anyway.
 

I say we'll make hard work of this one, but I'm backing Jo to play a part, he can't be that unfit, he's been fit and training with City just not playing games.

No i dont want him to succeed, i wanted him to 2 years ago. But now i just want him off our wage bill. The scary thing is, if he starts playing half decent now, its only because hes after a new contract, i dont imagine Moyes would give him 1. But maybe somebody else will.

It always comes down to value for me. I think it is possible to see a scenario where vdM gets a new contract. Lord knows we need the numbers. But poor Andy has to take a paycut. We've already prepaid his next contract with this current one. Herein lies the rub.... players will rarely take pay cuts from their current clubs and stay. Even if it means, leaving and taking that same paycut elsewhere. It's a pride/ego thing. It happens all the time in American football.

To stay on topic.... we take Bolton 3-1.

Seeing as Moyes has refused to play him until now, you can hardly say that he's just started to play for a contract. We all know that Moyes has stubbornly refused to entertain the idea of him being given a starting place, or even a start from the bench. The only reason he came on on Wednesday was to take a penalty.

Now I'm not saying Andy is innocent, but he's not the monster he's painted to be.

Thing I'll always say is that you're cutting your nose off to spit your face.

VDM is a winger. Pienaar is injured/suspended. Asking Gosling to go left wing is a big ask. Osman isnt good on either wing, espeically the left. The only other option is bringing Arteta out of CM on to LW.....Or playing VDM.

The problem with Moyes (and some fans) is they cant understand that we've no other options. They also wont accept the options we do have but would rather play people out of position then say they had a [Poor language removed] game and that they're a "squad player" (eg Osman).

Get our moneys worth out of VDM if we can while we can. I'd be silly not to with our squad.
But IMO I think Anichebe will play to be fair despite all the press talk.
 
A must win game. We have to make up the ground on Arsenal.
Only 3 points will do and our strongest available team should be put out onto pitch.
Cup games are all very well and good, but our focus must be on the premiership.
