It is really important that we win against City regardless of what Arsenal do.

Why? Because it will send yet another message out to the rest of the Premier League that we are serious contenders for Champions League places next season.

To finish the season having beaten Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and City, drawing with Spurs and Liverpool at Goodison will be a very powerful statement and a great platform to move into next season.

Forget what it does for the title, that is not our battle, but to have a record of 4 wins, 2 draws against the top 6 clubs at Goodison will be fantastic.
You can't help but feel optimistic given the results at times this season. Definitely a different team under Roberto far more dangerous. Squad has a couple holes but things are only going up at this moment.

Strange situation really, I want us to win every game and I'm certainly not going to cheer on someone else to beat us, but if we do lose, the fact that it's likely preventing Liverpool winning the league softens the blow somewhat. It's not as if the players are going into it with that kind of mentality anyway, they're professionals and will be going out there to win.

Just looking at the fixtures... United will likely win their three, especially after that yesterday, and Spurs have two easy fixtures, which means we need one point to guarantee sixth. What's the odds we lose both of our games and end up seventh and out of European competition?!

Spot on - I remember watching the said Blackburn game after sleeping on the streets surrounding Goodison the night before (another story) but what utter hypocrisy if they dare to call us out over next weekends game.

They played Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life at the final whistle at that game as United lost to West Ham and sealed the title for Blackburn.

Dignity and class. And defo, defo not bitter.

As I said - they have no moral high ground to throw the bitter tag from. They will probably still win it, but if they don't then you don't need anyone's permission to rub it in. They were carrying a blue coffin around at their game when we were playing Wimbledon to avoid being relegated. F them and the scabby ticket stealing horse they rode out of town into town in.

We've made that statement regardless. That would be a drop in an ocean of positivity about this season, whereas for those of us who live in the city (can only speak for myself but every Blue I've spoken to today is the same) it would utterly ruin the entire year.

It's not even a contest for me. I applaud you for being that positive about Everton, and I genuinely wish I was that upbeat, but... nope, not even an inkling of that mindset for me.

There were banners on the kop about us going down in 1998 too at their game with arsenal, they also applauded arsenal on to the pitch for beating United.

Bunch of hypocrites are the kopites

Going to be interesting to see how much Man Utd dislike Liverpool vs City.

If they draw or lose vs sunderland then we are guaranteed Europa which is very important to us, much less so to them. Indeed, it might be better for their next manager if they can concentrate on the league without European demands like Liverpool did this year.

If they fail to get three points in the early match, we go into the City game with a lot less pressure to win the game beyond the usual wanting to win every game.

Who Bitters ??? - always summed them up for me this

Throw it next week and, aside from Tim Howard potentially becoming the next Hans Segers, the Hull game basically becomes a playoff against Spurs for Europa footy.

Hull will feel no pressure, just like Palace and Soton didn't, and that will work against us.

I still believe that Europa footy will benefit us next year. We were fine in 2007/08 playing Europa footy in midweek and destroying various jarg teams at the weekend.

Unless West Ham beat Spurs, I want us to win just to throw the gauntlet down and secure european footy, it's not as if Liverpool can go into full throttle gobbiness if we hand them the title. If they win it and want to celebrate it as "their" win because they have a good squad then fine.

It's just a pain when they have the nerve to belittle you for winning nout (especially given you-know-what) and going on about that rather than their own success... they are the ones I want to smack desperately.

6th gets us Europa League mate.

United fans want a City win.
