Everton going it alone with BMD, the Legacy Project and L4 regeneration ?

Despite some of the things said about him in another thread yesterday and previously, our former poster, @The Esk , has penned the following article following the events and unveilings of last Thursday evening, and is happy for me to share it with GOT.

I'd ask/suggest that everyone park their (in some cases rather jaundiced) opinions on Esk and read the article for what it says and the questions it raises.

lol

Andy, he isn't doing this as a favour to us despite our meany meany words ffs

1. Don’t think we need praise for doing what we’re doing.

2. Didn’t they announce that the L4 Project is government funded or something? I read a 100m figure on Thursday.

I believe we are doing the L4 legacy project to that standard to grease the wheels to ensure PP is given for BM. It appears it's mostly coming out of the Everton pot unless uncle Usmanov is going to throw us a fundraiser, which with his friends will probably cover the full cost in a couple of hours.

So I think you are right we don't particularly deserve undying gratitude as it is born from a selfish requirement, but no other club in the country would remotely bother or worry about what happens after leaving a ground.

Any chance of you acting like a grown up for once? No, I doubt it.

I didn't suggest for a second that he was doing anyone a favour did I ?
No.

"Despite the" etc etc. It's pretty clear, come on. You've literally started the post with a thinly veiled jibe, which has set the tone for the responses. What did you expect?

As @Connor and others have already mentioned, the central premise of the article is just flat wrong. Why on earth would we go it alone? Why would we not take advantage of various funds and financial facilities available to us?

And yet having announced the Legacy Project months and months ago, there's no indication of anybody else yet having stepped up to the plate to get behind the club in its endeavours.

Not really. It was announced as an ambition but the myriad planning and development red tape challenges are still to come. Why would another finance house, company or organisation put there name to it so soon?

Everton do a lot of good in L4, but logically this isn't going to manifest itself as a £100m goodbye gift when we are also trying to build a stadium. What if stadium costs soar? The legacy project would need to be dialled right back if we were paying for both... unless they are two separate pots of funding

Or, they havnt told anyone. DBB has a background in the charitable sector, and believe me, despite their charitable status, they are as grasping and manipulative as Google or Apple. Just do it with a smile on their face and a sticker for the fridge to say Thanks.

Aye, pretty much.

I just don't think we need to be showered in praise until the impact can be seen. Crying for attention is for everyone else. We do our thing and that's what makes us different.
